Zaphod42 posted:Ehhhh, "if you were really raped you'd be more upset" is a very very bad take. It seems like Homelander was dosing adults with V to create his super-creeps, so it is probably more like the survivability for adults is really bad. Let's just say stem cells graft V better or some pseudoshit like that.

You're right, they explicitly said that Homelander was dosing adults to create his supe-terrorists, and he mentioned something like "it was messy, I see why you used children; still, enough survived..." It could be they got lucky with Becca or maybe they figured out some way to make it work better on adults. Or also maybe something about the pregnancy, like giving her compound V was okay because the baby helped manage it or something. we'll see.

They started back in June.

I'd like to see the Deep get some more marine life killed. I could not stop laughing at the dolphin and then I saw lobster bit and lost it all over again.

Is it me or did the Deep want to gently caress the dolphin and lobster just before he got them killed? He's not just killing what he loves, he is also constantly cock blocked.

The lobster bit was confusing. I've never cooked or eaten em but I thought they were supposed to be cooked alive.

There's two ways to off them; either knife them and drop them in boiling water ASAP, or just put them in a pot of boiling water alive. Aside from that it was just hilarious.

I believe they were traditionally sold and taken home to cook live, but in recent years there has been discussion that lobsters feel pain when being boiled alive and are now killed 'humanely' when sold. But I could be wrong or it could depend on the area.

If deep had successfully rescued the dolphin we could have had a dolphin rape scene instead of the gill-fingering.

The gill-fingering was weird since it was him being sexually assaulted as revenge porn for him forcing himself on Annie. I'm all for punishing rapists but not with more rape

I've been seeing a lot of YouTube videos with the title something like "The Ending of The Boys S1 Explained." I see them and I just wonder... what exactly did people need explained about the ending? Or is it just that people just expect every ending to be some kind of "Nolan-type" twist now they see it even when it's not there?

Yeah I don't really like the terms "twist" or "cliffhanger" for the finale. Seemed like it was just new plot threads for next season! Nothing about it invalidated the events of the current season, it just added complicated new angles to some (and not all) of the plot lines.

I'm glad they didn't have it say sad lines of dialogue and was looking for a handy instead, made the death a little less sad. Lobster was more frustrating. He could have just said no faster then watching him put the lobster on the cutting board and pick up the knife. I felt worse for the them than the whole plane of innocent people and children.

Hey the dolphin was partially responsible for its own death. After all, the Deep kept telling the dolphin that he would be happy to give the handy to it later, but the dolphin just kept pushing for it.

Maybe The Deep has internalized rape culture because he's had pods of dolphins pestering him for handies his whole life.

If it was meant to parallel him and Starlight it did a bad job. Part of me wonders if the plan was for the woman to threaten some kind of false accusation if he didn't go with it, in which case I'm glad they cut it but they probably should have just cut the whole scene. His life falling apart was good enough schadenfreude without heavy-handed role reversal.

I'm all for punishing rapists but not with more rape I'm of two minds. On one hand I definitely agree and found an extra degree of skeeviness in how they gleefully showed him being mounted and penetrated in full detail after they had the restraint to have Starlight's rape be completely desexualized and not show the actual act at all, but on the other hand considering vast swaths of the population still view prison rape as retributive justice as well as totally hilarious the fact that it was as much about his powerlessness as anything else and there was no gay panic put it streets ahead of most of its peers. It's funny because the whole point of the dolphin rape in that episode of KotH was pretty much exactly the same of what happened to The Deep, Hank experiencing it made him sensitive to and receptive of the sexual harassment Luane was encountering from her customers later in the episode. And then Hank throws the catcalling customer into the tank for some Revenge Rape at the end of the episode because Mike Judge. These videos exist almost entirely because of hate clicks from people who click on them and watch them to smirk at how dumb people are for clicking on and watching them. It's like how most lifehack videos are now just collections of obtuse useless oddities because way more people want to watch a video to clown on the weirdness of soaking an egg in maple syrup rather than want to get actual useful information online.

FilthyImp posted:Yeah true. I think some of the disparity I'm reading into it also reflects on Butcher's need for it to be what he believes. Wasn't that supposed to be just before she disappeared, not after the rape/sex? So presumably she has found out about the pregnancy and/or Homelander being the father. Maybe she is considering Vought's offer to disappear her?
