Yeah, if I do a mediocre paintjob on space marine or whatever I might still show it off as part of my army, and it still serves a purpose as a game piece even if it looks bad. If I do a lovely job on a model that has no purpose but looking sexy showing it off is just sort of saying "Hey look I suck and am also creepy lol".
