Yeah, there's been some drama around the Dezatopia announcement that's hard to piece together since HEY's not really talking about it, but it basically boils down to Furukawa being a pain to work with and HEY cutting him out because it's the only way he could continue working on the game, and now Furukawa and some of the backers are kicking up a stink about it.

So they took an already funded game, replaced the assets made by that guy, and resold it?

It's not out yet but pretty much, yeah. The guy who got cut out was arguably the biggest reason their campaign was funded, too - he worked at Konami back in the day and contributed to the soundtracks to several reasonably well-known games, so he brought a lot of attention to their campaign.

On the other hand, that guy's also alleged to be the reason the game never came out in English, never got a digital release, never got patched, etc.

Furukawa didn't even make most of the music in the game, HEY did.

It's ridiculous because most of the people throwing a fit are the backers who already got a copy years ago, like they want the game to be some semi-exclusive collectors item forever.

On that note, Kagura's Infernal Sabbath is babby's first hellsinker experience, though it's also not quite the 'true' experience that way. Fossil Maiden might be the next easiest one?

Minogame's kind of hard because she has weird combo attacks, Deadliar is pretty midrange due to being sort of precision focused, and actually using Kagura properly is probably hardest.

lets hang out posted:

Okay, here's what I remember:

Destroying enemies gives you tokens. Sol increase your main weapon's power, Luna increases your subweapon (except for Minogame), Gems increase your Token score, and Relics boost both Luna and Stella meters; Luna meaning more subweapon damage, Stella meaning the difficulty goes up and you can get higher scores. Optimal scoring is best reached by destroying enemies as soon as they appear, which means more enemies spawn, which in turn gives you more chances to increase the Stella meter and thus increase the difficulty and scoring.

Score is divided into three types: Kills (take a guess), Tokens (again), and Spirit, which goes up in some arcane mysterious way involving grazing enemy bullets.

You can't pick your starting lives, but after picking your character, etc, the "Way of Life" selection lets you pick the number of extra lives you can store. Picking the lowest one, which isn't even that many less lives, gives you a boost to all your score types.

Vasara Collection's out next week for PC, Switch, PS4, XB1 and Vita - It's ports of the two Vasara games plus a bad-looking 3D, 16:9 multiplayer bonus thing that's not even in the Vita version. They're doing a 50% pre-purchase discount on Switch so if you buy it now it's only like $5. There was also a limited-edition retail package but it's sold out, if you really want a disc version for PS4 it'll be getting a Japanese release in a few months.

Jamestown+ is coming to Switch and Steam in the fall, and they said they'll be patching the existing PS4 version with whatever changes/additions are made: https://store.steampowered.com/app/377950/Jamestown/

M2's ESP RaDe port has a release date, it comes out December 19 for PS4 and Switch and there'll be a digital version, a retail version and a limited-edition package with a bunch of extra crap https://m2stg.com/esprade/ They'll be holding an event in early September where they'll talk and show off more features, as well as talk about their new Aleste game and the new Cotton game that's coming out.

Several additional games were announced for PC Engine/Turbografx Mini, including Spriggan and Spriggan mark2, Dragon Spirit and Galaga 88.

I really can't overstate how thrilled I am about the ESPRaDe release. It's always been the most overlooked first-gen Cave game to my mind (maybe tied with Donpachi?). Amazing-looking sprite art with one of the best final bosses out there, what's not to love.

"Arcade Plus" mode implies to me that they'll be fixing that game's infamous scoring problems, which sounds really good.

Edit: Hey, well wouldya look at that https://twitter.com/gosokkyu/status/1160887186125774850

I’m pretty sure that the games in the CE version (the home ports) are separate from the main collection - so that’s 6500 yen for five ports, without the arcade games. I’ve read that page a couple of times and the Famitsu article and haven’t seen any suggestions that you get both sets in one go.

How is Hellsinker's training mode, assuming it has one? Can you do both individual stages and boss starts? I'm back in one of my intermittent shmup playing phases and I've found I have a lot more fun starting a game by save stating at the start of each stage in MAME and redoing it til I can no miss no bomb, same for bosses. I'm improving a lot faster too. I figure my only hope for doing this in pc games though is if they have a full featured training mode.
