Any move can be a credible finisher, though. All it takes is winning with it enough times, maybe doing it with a little more flair than most guys, give it a cool name, and then suddenly it's established as a killer move.

Like, I forget who - it might have been Jake Roberts - but a guy was asked in a backstage interview once, "hey, what separates you doing this move that's commonly used by other guys, why is this move your finisher when for most guys it's just a regular move?" and he just gave the answer "when I do it, they stay down."

It's that simple. Big Show got a punch over. Edge did a running hug and people bought it.

Paul Heyman in a great interview once discussed how he could book Mark Henry using a headlock as a monster submission.

That was on the Steve Austin Show, I think. He said he'd find the guys who can make their faces turn the reddest and pair them up against Henry.

Henry's current finishers are a body slam and a bear hug, so it's not hard to make the argument that he could get lame moves over based on his look alone.

Jake also never did a lame backyarder DDT. (At least, not until he was so hosed up he couldn't do a back bump and wrestling for crack.)

Wait a minute. I haven't watched wrestling in the last 10-15 years (hence my posting in the WCW thread), did you just say Mark Henry is not only still wrestling, but is actually over? Am I hearing that right? :psyduck:

Nah he’s retired but officially only for a couple of years. He actually got over really well in the early 2010s when he went on his Hall of Pain run and was just a scary tank of a man who wrecked people which he should have been all along

Henry also has a voice that carries, so the crowd and the home audience could clearly hear him clowning on people as he threw them around, yelling poo poo like "WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO?! THAT'S RIGHT, NOTHING!! YOU CAN'T DO A drat THING!!"

pre-NWO Heel Hogan was some weird rear end poo poo. I can't remember how they even resolved that. Something about throwing The Giant off a casino.

I remember he was working over Cena and yelled "YOU GOT JOKES NOW?".

Mark Henry talking audible poo poo during matches was the best thing ever. :allears: Him clowning on Orton then pinning him clean as a sheet was cool, especially for the couple of shocked bros in the front row.

Truth. There was something about the snap and the impact of a Jake Roberts DDT that just made it look like he'd killed a dude. He simply does DDTs better than almost anybody.

Favorite GDT ever. Shock and awe, baby.

You get the vibe Cole is genuinely happy for Mark, too. Rightly so, Mark ate an unreal amount of poo poo in WWE, and pretty much 100% of the problems with getting him over lay in WWE not understanding how to get Mark in position to be over.

Between the Rock, Godfather and Mark Henry, NOD really did an amazing job of salvaging talent.

Raven's evenflow in WCW was an amazing DDT. Like the Stunner, he'd kick you in the gut first to get you in position and it looked devastating. Later on, he'd add a long pause when his opponent's head was under his arm and he wouldn't back bump as hard and it sucked.

Raven sometimes did a variation where he'd reverse a an irish whip into a short arm into the Evenflow. He did it on Kaz Hayashi once on WCWSN, and between the snap and the selljob, it looked like Kaz was dead.

Bischoff and Hogan were obsessed with bikers to the point that they ran the annual Hog Wild/Road Wild PPV in Sturgis with a free gate and a crowd that would poo poo on anyone not white.

Mark Henry on commentary was wonderful too. There was one time Heel Michael Cole was being Heel Michael Cole and Henry just pauses for a moment

Henry: What did that even have to do with anything? How was that relevant? If you don't have anything intelligent to say then don't say anything.

Big T aka Ahmed Johnson you mean? I'm guessing Henry was talking about Ahmed's WWF run, and not his extremely brief run as "Big T of Harlem Heat 2000." I barely remember the latter, as WCW was pretty unwatchable at the time, but from what I remember he was really out of shape by then, had lost any momentum he has when he was Ahmed, and just could not get over at all. I remember he looked pretty bad in the ring by then, couldn't really work the mic, and was in the unfortunate position of being a stand-in for Booker. And then Stevie retired and became a commentator. I remember being surprised by that at the time, wondered if he had a bad injury or something, but actually I just looked it up and it turns out Stevie is 6 years older than his brother Booker, so... yeah that makes sense now. He was in his 40's by then. Anyway, I liked Stevie as a wrestler, thought he was great in Harlem Heat and underrated in the nWo, but being a commentator didn't really work out for him.
Big T was pretty bad in WCW, and I didn't watch WWF during his run, but I've heard he looked really promising when he first came in as Ahmed.

He looked promising as long as he didn't have to talk or wrestle.

He was sloppy as hell even in his in-shape WWF days.

Booker T was obviously way better than his brother, but I've head several wrestlers say they'd rather work with Stevie since he'd never touch them, and Booker was just knocking the poo poo out of them.
