A lot of people hate on picking Blue Lions your first time through but I feel like it really boils down to whether you want the best Lord or the best House. Blue Lions have the tightest knit friends, the closest connections, and not a single one of them is an insufferable poo poo. Even Felix and his "while you slept I studied The Blade" mentality is super charming and sweet underneath everything and he calls Dimitri out on a lot of his worse tendencies. BL don't get stuck with a Hubert or a Lorenz.

I appreciate Hubert's commitment to being the evil wizard he was born to be but his codependent relationship with Edelgard is a bit awkward. At least Dedue's codependent relationship with Dimitri has its roots more clearly explained (Dedue is suicidally self-hating.)

I picked BL on my first run and so far it feels like the best introduction, since it immerses you in the primary conflict but leaves a lot of deeper lore questions unanswered. Now I'm playing GD which seems a lot more focused on lore than the central conflict. After I finish this one I'm doing BE Church to get the full picture, then BE Edel which I hear is pretty short and disjointed and kinda relies on you know what is going on.

Bishops can transition pretty well to Gremory (or Holy Knight, if you want the movement) but I don't think Assassin really gets a lot from promoting to anything Most of the advance classes are just fine as they are. My Petra performed admirably as an end game assassin

yeah if they don't have a clear upgrade option in master classes, the advanced is fine. assassin gives benefits you can't get from any master classes, and same for bishop if your unit is male.

The mobile casters aren't straight upgrades either. Sure they do have a faire and canto, but they don't get 2x uses, and in the case of holy knight, don't get +10 healing either.

Also while Hubert does make a powerful dark knight....he loses out on being fabulous. His outfit is no longer cool and he stops twirling around. A major downgrade.

The thing is Hubert while he's hyper focused on Edelgard, he does care about people in the house in his own way. He looks after them and his supports with them showcases it. Also fucker revels in his evil reputation at times and it owns. I just wish the adjutants in general had inter house supports cause his supports in general are really fascinating and I would like an outside house perspective

Being loving extra and acting like an evil vizier is how he dealt with the poo poo hand life dealt him. And yeah while a lot of his supports are just straight up "I will kill you if you gently caress Edelgard over" others are really sweet or funny. His relationship with Bernie is loving adorable to the point that I think he makes the best husband for her. He really cares for her and you know anyone so much thinks about hurting her is going to end up very, very dead.

I ended up pairing off Hubert to Shamir and it kinda owned so I'm happy about it. They bounce of each other really well with the whole murder the gently caress out of assassins thing. But yeah his Bernie support is great as well But yeah you see him talk about the life he might have in his first Edel support and its great

For Assassins, the big problem is that the only master class with swordfair is mortal savant, and few assassins have good spell lists. If you aren't too bothered with losing sword fair, Falcon Knight is a plausible upgrade (or Wyvern Lord for males I guess).Eimi posted:The mobile casters aren't straight upgrades either. I'll probably use church route training to get her up in the skills she needs then buy them at the start of the next one. I love new game+ for letting me plan out wildly dumb ideas, like the bow knight Hanneman with magic bow+ I want to try.

Pretty much all the BE girls are A+ characters with Dorothea, Petra and Bernadetta. They are all stellar characters and pretty kickass units too.

Caspar as a character is amazing. Caspar as a unit....pray to the rng gods. But yeah the only character I don't fully like is Lorenz and he can have his moments. Usually when getting dunked on by the other, better characters, but still.

Oh, I got a lot of two-stat levelups in the first few chapters, but just keep at it. Raphael in particular is going to be slow as molasses, but let him punch stuff, and it won't really matter. And, well... let's just say Golden Deer has the best/earliest answer to the Death Knight if you get Lysithea's Reason skill up quickly.  (She and Hubert are the only ones to learn it; Hubert doesn't get it till A-rank, she gets it at B-rank)

If you give Caspar death blow and otherwise go Brawler/War master it's impossible for him to not be great. This applies to every unit who goes that route.
