Soul music is very good because yeah, it's basically a torrent of puns about golden age rock music, but it works very well even if you don't get any of them.

Yeah, Reaper Man is under-rated IMO - I suppose because he was still working on mixing the serious and the silly, so the two different storylines (Bill Door and the wizards dealing with the overabundance of life) don't really sit well together, but the Bill storyline is absolutely beautifully written.

I mean there seems to be loads of studios which have avoided sex pest related issues. Paradox Interactive is the first that springs to mind, and for a bonus their new CEO is a woman.

Though I guess they have previously employed Alexis Kennedy.

I do love the idea that even without Justice and Mercy there is still something out there. Not looking out for us as it were, but something that makes a kind of vast "sense" something that is not a God, but something that is just bigger.

I like it also that Azrael, the Great Attractor, The Death of Universes is so vast as to be hard to describe.

Sounds to me like there's selection bias happening there - the people who rise to power in a male-dominated industry probably tend to be power-obsessed assholes, exactly the kind of people you don't want to give power to.

I'm sure there's plenty of small indie studios whose heads are not complete poo poo, but any kind of high profile game dev company? The people at the top are gonna be poo poo for sure

But actually abolish all hierarchies and the patriarchy. Let no human hold power over another except maybe when your parents tell you not to touch the boiling pot

Anyway, they chose to let it conclude with this uncritical quote, great job everyone:

quote:

Like the others, the restoration of lost sovereignty was a priority but there was also a personal motivation, as she saw it, for wanting to see Brexit realised.

“My little boy is six and is extremely bright but he’s being held back because the school he goes to is one where there has been a massive influx of Romanians, Poles and other people, and the teacher’s time is being taken up with teaching their children how to speak English in the first place,” said Scarrott, who noted that most of her customers spoke in accents that appeared to be from overseas.

She was grateful for their custom but believed that the NHS, schools and other services were “overrun”, which she felt put current Westminster manoeuvring in the shade as an issue.

Absolutely love, love, love, to say that the dereliction of centuries of Parliamentary custom and functions is perfectly fine because it achieves what I want.

The issue of Brexit itself has become only one of two issues now. I hate Brexit and I think it's a stupid idea sold by psychopaths with top-to-bottom lies, and I think the referendum was corrupted badly, but I accept that it is theoretically possible for Brexit to be something the country arrives at democratically and which Parliament implements legitimately.

But now we have another issue. Suspending Parliament, while cooking up all kinds of other plots to kill time, is a huge assault on democracy as it has been practiced in this country for a long time now. Whether you want the hardest No Deal Brexit possible or want immediate cancellation of A50 has no bearing on this topic, except that the one precipitated the other. It's preventing the sovereign body of the United Kingdom from exercising its duty. The stakes are more immediate, but it ultimately doesn't really matter whether it's being done because of Brexit or because of a 5p tax on plastic bags, the problem is that it's being done at all.

And whilst many of us ITT would agree the system should be changed, I don't think that having it demolished by Boris Johnson is the way we want to be going about it. The outcome of that is most certainly not one that looks good for the great majority of the country.

OwlFancier
Aug 22, 2013

I still don't really agree that he's demolishing it, parliament has had many opportunities to do something about this, they have repeatedly voted not to out of cowardice or stupidity. The problem is that probably most of the people in the chamber aren't any good at governing, not that the system itself is suddenly failing. Other than that I would characterise the form of democracy we have as being a component in producing the idiots participating in it.

But it's a lot of things really, most of which can be boiled down to "capitalism" in one form or another. The problem remains firmly one of the quality of the people in charge, and the necessary critique I think is against the structures that involve "people in charge" as a concept or the structures that produce the people we have now, of which parliament is a part, but not the main part, I think.

This is the checks and balances that exist in the parliamentary system happening, and parliament repeatedly saying "yeah we're sure we want to drive off the cliff anyway" and I'm not sure it's possible to build a system that refuses to be driven off a cliff if enough of the people in it want it to be driven off a cliff. The desire for that is usually something I associate with either liberals or very serious anarchists, and I only take one of those groups seriously.

It may well be the will of Parliament that we brexit hard, and I did say as much - but the point is that he's thinking it isn't, and in an effort to pre-empt that, is doing everything he can to make sure they can't have their say.

OwlFancier

Oh yeah boris is being a poo poo but like, the reason he's being a poo poo is because parliament has spend the last two/three years slouching towards shitlehem.

It's a bit rich I think for the tories and the press to suddenly go "oh no he's going to make us do the thing we've consistently been working towards for the entire parliamentary term thus far, clearly the system is broken!"

Like no fuckers it's your drat fault.
