I think Mary Ann Hobbs is the greatest thing I've heard on radio. She has a daily weekday show now, and the mix of music can't be beaten. Her serious, underground, somewhat avant-garde tastes have been proven by her weekend shows and the BBC Introducing sessions, but she's kept plenty of her nuanced taste for the daily shows. It'll range from hip hop, to metal, to dance, to general electronica, to punk, to pop. And when she plays all that mix it's scattered between up and comers making waves, and old school, non-obvious classics and absolute belters. She's genuinely the best thing on radio.

Edit: 248 years ago Spain ceded the Falklands to Grand Britaine. Liz will be evacuated there to live on a diet of seal blubber, as she is used to, when the 28 Days Later mood settles in after brexit.

I preferred when Hobbs was on weekends, because waking up hung over to her voice was just very soothing. Cerys Matthews has the same effect though. oval office from the Fun Loving Criminals, not so much.

Do find that 6Music daytimes are pretty dull though, you just hear the same poo poo over & over. Even when a new song comes out I'm into like Idles or Pigsx7 they just run that poo poo into the ground. And as for the oldies, jesus christ they really love Bowie & The Beatles & y'know, so do I but maybe don't play them all the loving time guys? Isn't that what Radio 2 is for?

Also loving hate the almost complete absence of metal outside of a couple of ghettos but I'm used to that now I guess. No one likes us, we do care.

I think MAH's morning show has enough variety to keep me interested. Shaun Keaveney plays a middle-aged, raised on cider and the 90s curmudgeon for the laugh, but it's painfully obvious to see through his (probably what he wants to be different) choice of music. The afternoon's on 6Music have been rather plain for a while, though. For me it's MAH's morning show that reinvigorated it, and the evening continues to be good. And she does play metal, and will often have shows where she plays quite a bit of it. It just changes, because she has a wide taste.

Like I said, metal does get played, but incredibly sparingly and only on a couple shows. Lamacq manages a token 1 tune a week (except when the entire day has been put over to rave tunes, which is a trauma I've still not gotten over), Hobbs does it occasionally, Iggy sometimes breaks out something on the more weird side of metal, same as The Freak Zone though that's less regular, it's just got it's ghettos. Never mind that you're more likely to more tracks from Fleetwood Mac's Rumours in the average week than from the entire diverse genre of metal.

I'm pretty sure having a grudge against the way metal is just ignored in general is an inferiority complex of most metal fans.

I only criticise 6Music so much because it's far & away the best station on the radio. Just wish they could be a bit less vanilla, sometimes it does feel like I've fallen into a 1990s Evening Session timewarp.

are they the sort of thing people from other countries would actually eat or is the export market purely British immigrants?

I'm ok with them and have eaten my fair share but cold greyish pink meat in cold pastry with bonus weird jelly stuff is p much the epitome of bland British food and I can't imagine why like an Italian or an American or a chinese person would choose to eat them over, like, anything else they have available to them
