My group seldom sticks with one game and setting long enough to explore different facets of it, so when I say something like "let's check out this 40k game", I've got five people and one of them wants to be an Ultramarine, one of them wants to be an Eldar psyker, one of them wants to be a rogue trader, and the other two are looking forward to being hive gangers or guardsmen who get shot in the head with a bolter the first night. Everyone's "fantasy" is so different that they're fundamentally incompatible, like if I proposed an LOTR game and one guy wanted to be a Middle Earth Wizard and another wanted to play a Hobbit carrot farmer.

It makes writing a game with a strong identity and a system robust enough to let those guys be allies harder, but at the end of the day I also get why someone would try or want that. I've never understood where people even dig up groups to play months-long games in some of the strangely specific concept RPGs out there. But I do see why it's a problem; part of why D&D's never been a great system is that it always tries to square guys who want a gritty, misery porn dungeon crawling game where everyone counts ammo and rations with guys who want to play the high fantasy adventures of Mary Sue and Chad Stu, Elven Archmages, as they conquer the multiverse and give both groups what they want within one system.

I managed to be in two complete(ish) goon campaigns of DW and DH, so it must be your friend group.

Heck, I even played in an RT campaign where we had a Kroot, a Tau, and an Ork, even if I didn't like that.

I can’t help but feel that any time someone home brewing for W&G decides to go into depth on the various marks of power armor or alternate builds for bolters or whatever, they’re missing the mark a bit.

I need to find a group to make good on my threat to run 2Fast2Trader: Slinnar Drift, in which the party enters a space race run by a bored Dark Eldar Archon for the chance to win an untainted Slaughter-class Cruiser (those being the ones wot go fast). It'd be more in line with the Heifong Space Race in Outlaw Star than actual go-kart racing, but much of the 'race track' would contain opportunities to sabotage opponents and drift around stars/black holes (and sometimes opportunities to sabotage opponents while drifting around a black hole!).

Removing a brain hemisphere is an actual thing (and, bizarrely, in some cases your cognition can be just fine afterwards): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemispherectomy

I think it's the brainstem and all that stuff that isn't in one of the hemispheres that means you only really have one complete brain. The removed part won't work on its own.

Yeah iirc there's a theory based on injuries that if half of the brain is disconnected from the other half but somehow still alive, it develops its own full function. So if you wanted to say the machine body could replicate a brain stem, there's no reason the metal man couldn't be run by half a brain. But since it develops separately, your robo buddy may start to deviate from who you originally were.

My players pretty much shat their pants when the Inquisitor with whom they sometimes work conveyed her psychic vision of a daemon primarch being summoned unless they do X thing to stop it, mostly because this just seems like elevation of stakes as appropriate for the final act of the campaign.

They have not yet figured out that the way in which you gain uncontrollable psychic visions of the past or future is entirely through gaining Corruption, and that it's completely untrustworthy as a source of information. It could be absolutely accurate, or it could be complete garbage.

Nothing, really. The AdMech will kill you and the Mechanicus will probably kill you for different reasons but that has nothing to do with removing your brain.

What’s really weird to me is that they’re a fairly insightful party except for this one specific thing. For example, they got an emergency extraction request from some Ultramarines and almost immediately deduced (correctly) that it was a trap laid by the Alpha Legion with very little information to go on.
