  • "We'd have to redo a lot of work. It'd be worth it, because it's the only way forward."

I've felt like an engine change was on the way for a while now. VR is all the rage (hell even No Man's Sky is in VR now), and VR would go well with the "second life in space" that the whales want. As long as they frame it like that- "cryengine just isn't powerful enough to fulfill CR's vision... We need a "next-gen" engine, VR, Chris waves his hands about, ect" Place all the blame on cryengine and I think they'll do ok. Might have to downsize a bit. Maybe take Ben off the payroll...

There are many Momas. It stands for ManOfManyAliases, but I think that must be a joke because the reality looked more like AliasOfManyMans. Some days, there was good humor, and a sanguine willingness to poke fun at Star Citizen. Some days, there was a shy, reluctant admission that many dollars had been spent in the Star Citizen Imaginary Ship Store. And some days, there was a great anger at us doubters, and vows that we would all repent on the day that the glorious BDSSE was come, and the unbelievers would be Left Behind.

It was pretty fun, really. I miss them.

Yeah, shifting the blame is money. They don't even have to admit there was anything wrong with STAR ENGINE, only that Crytech used nasty legal tricks to ruin your game because they are meanies who hate you the backer. Now we have to start over, so everyone reset your development clocks to 0 years.

Oh, all those impossible features? Yeah we nearly had them all working great in STAR ENGINE, but now all that work is being thrown out. We may need to trim some of the scope now, sorry, Crytech's fault.

If funding collapses they just give some shovelware subcontractor like 50 grand to make a spaceship-themed clicker game to fulfill any lingering legal responsibilities and peace out.

I mean, yeah it actually is a good idea, as their current engine of choice isn't suitable at all for the project, I am not disputing that at all. It is just that the backers have fully invested in the whole Star Engine / Lumberyard hype, where Star Engine was supposed to be this custom engine that was miles ahead of competition on every level and the change to Lumberyard brought Amazon on board (fully, if some backers are to be believed). It would just be extremely funny to see the mental gymnastics needed to pivot that hard in regard to the engine.

The backers have fully invested in a lot of things that never panned out. They're used to this.

A minesweeper would have made more sense, especially as a game mechanic a lot of ships could lay mines.

That'll be $276.42 Chris and you can thank me later.

Star Citizen content isn't appropriate for GBS, as Chris Roberts' bullshit isn't general; it's a very specialised form of bullshit.
