Didn't someone effortpost in here tearing down a graphics card from aliexpress and discovering all the parts were subtly wrong or like, just doubled up lower tier hardware? Might want to be careful with that board

The Marlin config doesn't really bother me too much, what I'm really nervous about is soldering the J2 bridge to enable UART mode. I thought it would be pretty easy looking at guides but now that I have it in my hand, those little pads are tiny and I've never soldered anything that small before.

It’ll be fine, a blob of hot clean solder will suck to the pads. Just dab it on.

Just buy the finest diameter solder you can find (0.4mm from RS electronics or similar will be cheap) and a nice fine tip for your iron and it's usually easier than you might think.

Out of a dozen orders so far, I'd gotten ten orders fulfilled. (The remaining two are on their way.) I just received my order for this t-shirt, but they sent a wrong design. I messaged them 24 hours ago, but so far no response. The shirt quality itself is subpar. It's 100% cotton, but it looks like it will shrink on the first contact with water. The print quality is laughable, too. Blurry and not much ink, so you can see right through it, rendering the print gray, rather than white. So, lesson learned. No more t-shirts from Ali for me.

The usual cheapo soldering iron recommendation is the TS-100 (https://www.banggood.com/MINI-TS100...ur_warehouse=CN) or the newer fancier TS-80 (https://www.banggood.com/MINI-TS80-...ur_warehouse=CN), but I'm sure that one won't blow up too much. I went with the 100 as it's cheaper, more powerful and takes any 12-24v power supply instead of the fancy USB-C QC.

I used to do smd soldering with a pretty lovely soldering iron day in day out, those all look far fancier. Then again there's not much you can get wrong with an analog temperature control soldering iron, the important bit is the tip & solder.

I was dumb and always cleaned the tip with a stanley knife. Over time the tip developed a little hook of sorts. That was the hands down BEST iron I've ever used, the hook would essentially hold a little ball of solder and once touching the pad/wire release instantly. It's hard to explain really.

There are awesome hollow soldering tips, they basically hold a tiny bit of solder in the tip. Absolutely incredible for SMD work. Edit: they seem to be called 'wave' or 'drag' tips. yoloer420 fucked around with this message at 07:58 on Aug 31, 2019 |

I recently bought one of these https://www.aliexpress.com/item/327...rchweb201603_55, it's actually pretty nice probably because it's a clone of a fancy razor that had the patent expire,

It just seems silly to buy something that will work terribly for six months and then break, as opposed to buying a good tool that will last a long time and be a pleasure to use. Totally your call, and this is exactly the thread where people fall into that trap a lot. Just be aware that you're buying the lovely $5 plastic shirt that will discolour and rip within the year, instead of the $15 cotton one that will last a decade. I know you don't believe us, but I have gone through two cheapo soldering stations, and one hot air station, and it's always been regrettable

Man, this looks like a really nice porcelain palette. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32946065022.html But it's 19 bux! That's more than I'm normally comfortable with using on an alix purchase, even if one of the reviews does ominously say "you will love it like I do". This one's cheaper at 14 bux, which is closer to comfort zone: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32858037076.html
