On the contrary, I think if you're going to try to do tricks on an electric scooter without a helmet, capris + flipflops is the only way to go.

is there such a thing as docked scooters or smth why do they always prefix things with dockless as if that's the important part?

docked scooters sounds more difficult than just throwing trash on the street and letting the public figure it out

docked bicycles are common, i assume that such a thing existed at some point for scooters.

nobody is willing to try a docked scooter model even though it's obviously so much better because if you run docks you are running infrastructure, if you run dockless you are outsourcing infrastructure to a bunch of tweakers with f150s, and infrastructure investments cut into Profits

gotta get stuff like right-of-way usage agreements and utility easements for docks and that's more work and money and government interaction than just dumping them out the back of a truck onto the sidewalk

probably not, but dockless bicycles were distinct from docked bicycles, and then the term was just appropriated for all the other bullshit garbage VC darlings decided to leave on the streets.

they exist. they're clearly not ubiquitous like the dockless ones

i tried riding with just sneakers instead of my boots once just on a corner store run and it was the weirdest experience and i hated it

i tried without a helmet once and went one block, parked the bike, walked back to the house, picked up my helmet, walked back to the bike, hopped on and continued

I get this too with my own bikes, but then if I'm in a different town riding a bikeshare I'll happily wobble around unfamiliar roads with my noggin unprotected and think nothing of it. No idea why there's that mental disconnect there.

helsinki's twitter person posted that because the companies don't have docks, they don't need to rent space for the docks from the city and therefore there is nothing the city can do punish the scooter companies
