I'd just like to take a moment to remind everyone that this is Boris' second official day at work. That's the fastest I've ever seen someone escorted off the premises, except the one 'senior' developer who walked in, was sexist as gently caress to a very connected SME lady, and walked off the site four hours later.

If i'm remembering right once a Lord starts talking there's pretty much nothing you can do to get them to shut up unless they struggle to keep talking - but even managing an hour an amendment would freeze up their business as the Lord's only sits for like 6 hours a day and are very spiky about sitting longer.

So there's going to be a general election soon and the tories have to hurriedly recruit 21 new candidates to replace the people they forced out, and some/most/all of them will have something horrible in their past that should never have got past vetting. Also there's going to be a lot of bad blood, demoralised local tory activists and posibly vote-splitting if the now ex-tories decide to run as independents/libdems. I don't know how safe the seats are but it could be a bloodbath :unsmigghh:

I've just gone back and found the info on The Guardian. Angela Smith has tabled a motion in the Lords tomorrow to ensure all stages of the bill will be completed by 5pm Friday.

Just a reminder for anyone playing along at home:
-The motion tonight gives the Opposition time tomorrow for the second reading of the Benn bill tomorrow, followed by amendments and the third reading.
-Assuming those pass (they will), the bill will then be passed over to the Lords
-As the Tories do not have a majority it will pass, however:
-The Tories are going to try and delay this by throwing amendments at it - this is what Angela Smith is trying to prevent
-The motion tonight also states that if it passes the Lords by the weekend Parliament can not be prorogued, and time must be given on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday for the final royal assent

We can therefore assume that if the bill passes tomorrow and the Lords get the bill through we will have a vote on a General Election by the end of the week.

I can only imagine the folks on the EU end either being amused, or groaning that the flaming dumpster is still creaking along on it's wheels after the result. Still, nice to see at least twenty-odd people aren't quite as gung-ho as diving off the cliff as previously suspected.

I honestly think, even if they withdraw the whip, Tory party rules would have him back in as a candidate. Weirdly the Tory selection process is way more democratic than Labour's.
