I just love how when the vote was over, 90% of the MPs left, the speaker told them to leave quietly and quickly, everyone just said "NO" and left. What a bunch of absolute lads

So what happened with Kinnock's amendment? Like literally what was the process by which it got through, because we seem to have just skipped over an amendment to a bill entering the process of law without being voted on. Was the speaker present? None of what anyone is saying makes sense.

They called for tellers for the No's and no one nominated themselves so that means there's no division and it's moved without a vote Basically if no one expresses opposition to a motion it always carries as it's unopposed in the house

There was an actual vote going in at the time, given that a nonzero number of people were still/again inside Bercows mini-me asked whoever was currently present to tell whether they were for or against, and no two people bothered to tell against.

Zalakwe posted:That does sound like it sucked. It's a pity but like a lot of very religious people it sounds like they didn't get it. Without going into the Law, and the Mishna etc. and risking a religion derail there is a story in the New Testament where Jesus specifically uses overly rules based Sabbath as an example of religion for rules sake being bad. Aye, the Calvinists are kind of the No Fun Church. And the smaller the offshoot of the kirk the worse that gets. Ash Crimson posted:The Queen is of German heritage. Sure, if you follow the male line back she is German. And you can follow that line all the way back to Theodoric I of Wettin, founder of the Wettin dynasty. But these things also get passed on by women. If you trace the male line from Victoria back you obviously get to the Hanover, they were a cadet branch of Welf, which in turn was a cadet branch of the house of Bonifaci, whose founder Boniface I was presumably a Frank appointed by Charlemagne as Duke of Lucca in Italy. Follow back to George I, then back through his mother & grandmother you get to James VI and I. Follow the Stewart line back and eventually you get to Walter fitz Alan. He was the son of Alan fitz Flaad, a Breton knight hired as a mercenary by Henry I of England. Go back to Walter Stewart, 6th High Steward, he marries Marjorie Bruce, daughter of Robert I. Trace the Bruce line back far enough & you get to Robert de Bruce, 1st Lord of Annandale, & he first came to Scotland via England, from Normandy. So my point is that Norman blood magic would clearly work because there's still Norman blood in the Queen's veins even if you have to go a long way back. Blood isn't just passed on through the father, that's just a legal thing. kemikalkadet posted:Jess Philips owns. And we've had it, the single worst post in UKMT history.
