This makes much more offensively-minded tokens, as they all have haste and another little bonus to go with it. And it lacks a Planeswalker body which means it can't be killed by Questing Beast in its neverending quest to kill all Teferi. Sarkhan's +1 is already a better wincon for Jeskai PW decks but this is certainly up there.

the problem with Robin Hood's Merry Men or whatever is that it's slooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow. It's a four mana enchantment that does nothing at all until the upkeep after you play it, and still doesn't really take over a game until both players are in topdeck mode. As a control finisher, I'd much rather just have M20 Mythic Chandra, who can clear a board, remove big threats, and also put an inevitable and unstoppable clock on the opponent that doesn't care if they have blockers.

it's an enchantment thats bad vs aggro and gets bounced by teferi. Strongly doubt it goes anywhere. but maybe i'm misunderstanding the future meta.

Boros control is a fun and interesting deck to play, and that enchantment slots right in. None of those things are true, but it's fun to play make believe in the fairy tale set.

How was big teferi oppressive? 5 Mana to draw a card or tuck a permanent? The only problem was access to good counters and wraths and everything else was super lovely. He was just a good card in an extremely low-power standard. Though I suspect that the people that complained loudest were the ones playing bo1 in arena and in that case that's just how that works.

Stuff gets banned when every deck either has to run it or has to run a counter to it. There are plenty of decks that don't even give a poo poo about smolferi. Plus it's relatively easy to handle for everything except decks that run no hard removal. It's also the hardest counter to simic flash, which is a good thing. I don't play smolferi but I don't think he's ruining standard.

I imagine it’s because there’s not much point to mtg fan merch. Custom playmats *are* the fan merch and anybody can just go to inked gaming or another place to get those done. I’ve seen custom deck boxes drawn on the basic white box and 3d card cutouts before but that’s pretty much the extent of it. The game’s not touhou, as much as WOTC wants it to be by pushing all the planes walkers. I’m sure somebody buys those action figures too, but every time I’ve seen them in the clearance bin a few months later.
