If you go private for birth you should only even consider doing it at a private that’s co-located with a good public hospital like Frances Perry (womens) or Jessie Mac (Monash)

They don't have people on 24 hours to respond to emergencies of that sort most of the time. I'm sure this is 100% about keeping staffing and insurance costs down by making sure that nobody is in a position to die on campus, but it's something you need to consider. Their business model is smashing out day surgeries, sections and the odd ~Natural Birth~ if that's in vogue at the time, not dealing with actual complicated medical problems. Private Health is a loving joke. If you go anywhere that doesn't share a location with a public hospital and something goes sideways, you're going to be thrown into an ambulance before someone misses their golf game. Just go public, but do some research and find a hospital that isn't juggling beds or permanently on bypass because that can suck. My partner was in spurious labour for 5 days with our first, and both of the hospitals we presented at refused to admit her and induce because they didn't want to give up a bed for someone who wasn't >6cm dilated, and she ended up bleeding out and needing like 4 units of blood as a result. We went to a different public hospital the second time and they were fantastic, even when things didn't go to plan.

Big Willy Style posted:Yeah don't do this. Private hospitals will basically bully women into having c sections so everything can be planned nice and neat. If anything serious actually goes wrong they're gonna send you to a public hospital anyway. This is all probably true, but isn’t always the case. You just need to do your diligence. We were kind of herded into private as the public hospitals around us were going through a form slump and we had picked a couple of specialists who only worked out of private. They were c-section as a last resort encouraging natural birth (nothing but awe struck respect for anyone who has gone through child birth in any number of ways). We went natural, natural (30min after arrival), full catastrophe emergency c-section and scheduled (no choice) and they didn’t miss a beat.

I didn't/don't go to Monash so I don't really have a horse in this race, but I've got a friend who does who says last time a party of only international students got in they campaigned only in Mandarin, used the money to fund their own private dinners, and basically eroded the trust and culture of the union. No idea how true it is (fwiw said friend speaks Mandarin and has lived in China), but if it is true (or if it's a perception shared by a chunk of the student body) then yeah I can see why they'd want to avoid a repeat. Plus yeah, the whole Hong Kong/Uyghur/Beijing influence thing.

most of the international students you notice for being annoying and inconsiderate are from rich as gently caress families, therefore they behave like your typical rich fucks. with tuition and accomodation being so expensive the international student population is going to be disproportionately rich and gently caress
