Much like rabid Islamophobes wanted Obama to refer to "the threat of radical Islam" when he was president, I want the Chapo gang to cut the pretense of "American Protestantism" and just say that the problem is evangelical Christianity. They're a completely irredeemable bloc, a virus on the American body politic. Don't bother reaching out to them. I need to watch The Righteous Gemstones but my computer sucks at streaming HBO Go, which is weird because it streams everything else well.

I reread The Boys when the Amazon series came out, and a lot of it just makes me cringe now. In particular the bits about how Butcher doesn't hate anybody, he's just a good ol' working-class Britisher who says fag and poof and dyke and fag and fag and fag and fag and...and the bit about how the Martian Manhunter has a thing for trans women, who were described using every conceivable other term you can think of. Warren Ellis can be obsessive about his pet issues, even to the point of reusing bits, if you dive deep enough into his bibliography. But there's no comparison to Ennis with regard to the gross edgelord poo poo. big boi posted:TBH I tried to listen to Streetfight and didn't find it entertaining at all I have to admit I've found them flagging a bit lately because they'll spend the first 5-10 minutes of their podcast talking about their podcast. I feel like they could still keep some of that in but the ending of the season was kind of a lame twist imo. still at least arguably an improvement on the comic though and Butcher & Homelander are both perfectly cast

I'd like to poke at something Amber said during the broadcast, since she said something on how non-US people see the American healthcare system: Once in a while papers here talk about stuff like the Dem debates and so on, but because it has to be in opposition of the current party + our current is right now a left-wing coalition, they just try to get right wing voices. As a result, you do get the same "Why is there even a debate other than how to beat Trump" sort of poo poo which you'd probably expect from an entertainer or like someone who wasn't as political, but coming from teams that are outright paid to know things about other countries. Now, once in a while someone looks a bit deeper. Our what could be described as Bret Stephens, but What If Bret Stephens Could Get Government People Fired because He's Friends with the President, and writes a thing on how he could be of the left if he wrote to the New York Times, because he's horrified at the state of healthcare in the US. And then he goes "And that's why I support Obamacare".
