Kind of a pity that you need to go out of your state to get FiSTed. I could get FiSTed easily in Florida.

Part of my post went missing but the buy in person tax thing is for selling vehicles in Florida as a dealer. Private party sales might as well be wild west and I don't know about how other states deal with it. From Florida's POV though taxes will be collected at some point and the state assumes it all works out between people registering things in Florida that were bought outside the state. They do make the distinction multiple times in the law about in person vs shipping out though.

I was looking at an M4 in California at one point and the dealer said that as an out of state buyer that I had to pay cash and they'd have to ship it to me because of the tax thing. I inquired about this to them and here and someone pointed me towards a waiver for taxes for out of state buyers. I sent them this waiver and then didn't hear back from them.

Since we're talking sales taxes I flew to IN as a TN resident and bought a used car from a dealership and paid no sales tax (until I returned to TN then paid sales tax upon registration).

I enjoy the saga of Rhyno trying to get FiSTed. I regret not buying a FiST a couple of years ago. I think I'm too spoiled by driving cars with nicer and more modern interiors now though.

I was pretty set on getting a FiST before test driving a GTI. Then realized with a 120mi commute the GTI made more sense (comfort wise).

I was interested in a FiST until I drove a Civic Sport and a GTI. No contest, not even close. Maybe if the FiST was WAY cheaper but it's really not all that cheap.

Decided to move on from the fisty boi. Have a pile of things to do to prep it for sale, but the time has come I think. Not sure what I will be moving to, but it probably won't be a hatch sadly.
