Ferdinand is amazing because he basically transcends all his terrible opinions by being so goddamned nice.

It's a shame that he and Lorenz don't have a paired ending where they talk about how great they are constantly, move in together, raise a bunch of children, and die together without actually realizing they're in a relationship.

I decided to take Felix on me to Chapter 16 on Edelgard's route and... man, that was not a very good day for him.

He killed his father, and then killed Ingrid, who I am assuming was his friend. Ingrid did have a point though; why did Felix essentially betray everyone to join Edelgard if you recruited him?

Also, I am having a sinking suspicion that I can see the budget unravel here a little bit.

I love his supports with Bernie because he lectures her a bit, she freaks out and accidentally hurts him, then declares him her nemesis and goes full foetal position upon seeing him again. And then she ends up lecturing him because he berates himself so much for being so insensitive and un-noble as to try and get her socialising. :allears:

Ferdie's one of my favourites. I like how his dialogue post-Flame Emperor reveal but pre-timeskip are so different on GD/BL compared to BE-E. The first he's really freaking out, his world is turned upside down, just all his confidence in himself and his house is completely drained. I just got to that point on BE-E and he's still a little shaken but seems to understand why what happened, happened.

Just a good guy all round.

That's not how I remember it? He only finds out post-battle that they killed his dad after all, he came there on hearing that his dad was still alive for whatever reason but he's really upset to find out he's too late. For about thirty seconds then he's fine again, sure. But he cries about it! That was on GD so I can see it being different in other routes.

iirc when you kill one of the bandit bosses, his dying words are that they shook down and killed ferdinand's dad, but then at the end of the battle ferdinand literally was like "i do not know what happened here but i am sure he got what he deserved"

i got this on blue lions but i see no reason it would be different between lions and deer

Felix, frankly speaking, hates the Kingdom and its culture and mostly sticks around so his friends don't do reckless knight poo poo. Something like Edelgard's merit-based society has great appeal to him.

five chapters in and the Blue Lions really seem like a house full of losers. Felix's gimmick is weak and annoying, Dedue keeps bending over backwards to excuse racism (both systemic and individual) (also: the man with the dusky complexion is from Duscur) which gets old really quick, Sylvain seems like a silly doof but in his supports he's a legitimate rear end in a top hat to women so much so that his oldest friends can barely stand him and think very poorly of him, Ingrid is basically alt right, I hate Mercedes' voice but she's cool, Dmitri seems like a real evil shithead, and Annette is my wonderful silly daughter whom no one shall speak ill of

it's annoying that Petra has no supports with anyone but Ashe (who I forgot existed until now), I feel like her and Sylvain could have some funny interactions. who should I recruit from BE or GD that have good supports with these losers

Marianne, Dorothea, and Bernadetta have a good number of supports with the Lions. Caspar has a part 2 paralogue with Mercedes that is extremely worth doing.

All of the childhood friends quad (Dimitri, Sylvain, Ingrid, Felix) are good kids with a lot of trauma who get better the more you get to know them. There's some good reasons for them being the way they are. Felix is just a lovable rear end in a top hat at all times and he'll be the backbone of your squad before long because he is ridiculous in battle

Felix is very good with Bernadetta and hilarious with Leonie and Lysithea. Sylvain only gets to B with Bernie and Leonie but they're good ones. He has a lot of supports with most of the Golden Deer and is particularly sweet with Marianne. Ashe's supports with Catherine are plot-relevant.

e: oh yeah and Caspar's thing with Mercie. Don't split him and Linhardt up, they are boyfriends and also Linhardt is the best

It's trauma. I've only seen about half of the BL route but it mostly revolves around one thing in the past that hosed all your guys up something awful. Felix has a pretty good reason for being such a prick and he can be genuinely quite sweet when he wants to be

Felix's supports with Annette are adorable, also.

Mild "Felix's personality" spoilers: Felix is a genuinely caring person who is very attached to his friends but has a very, very hard time letting his guard down. This means that his care and his protectiveness end up manifesting in really abrasive ways, especially with Dimitri, Ingrid, and really with Dedue.

2 reasons

1) because his issues with dimitri are never resolved

2) he has literally gone insane from 5 years of hellwar fighting for the baddies, on the other routes he's a lot more stable

also, he loathes the idea of chivalry and ~dying nobly~ because he sees his brother's death as utterly pointless, which puts him at odds with the rest of the lions and especially his father who are all about that

He also really likes his friends but finds their ideals* re: chivalry and "honorable death" to be immensely frustrating.

*especially in ingrid's case

He's fine once you get to know him. Though he's a prick if you pick him for the Goddess Tower

Harrow
Jun 30, 2012

Yeah, that's all a huge thing for Felix, too. He and Ingrid had polar opposite reactions to his brother's death. It made Felix reject all ideas of knightly honor, chivalry, and noble sacrifice; meanwhile, Ingrid idealized Glenn instead, and saw his death as the perfect ideal of knightly sacrifice that she should try to live up to.

I always think it's funny when people say "wow I can't believe Ferdinand/Lorenz/Felix actually have good supports!" like what did you think they were going to make a small group of totally unlikable characters that they intended everyone to hate? Of course they're going to open up eventually. The characters that people don't like are the ones who they made lovely on accident (Caspar) or boring on accident (Lorenz)
