What should or should't be in the MSQ aside, the game definitely assumes you have done it all. Hence why we get so many "Am I suppose to know who the Crystal Exarch is?" posts.

Random HW spoiler question. Is it ever revealed that Y'shtola is blind outside of that one conversation we have with her sister in a sidequest?

I didn't realize it until SHB. The conversation with Matoya earlier on honestly didn't make me think she was, and I hadn't done that side quest.

Man, I don't know why but I keep getting Dun Scaith every time I roll alliance roulette this week, and it's always a shitshow. I abandoned it earlier because I was tired of it, ate the penalty, rolled again and wound up back in there (and just ate the penalty again for the second time today). Maybe I just won't roll that roulette anymore.

I’d probably just stop doing alliance roulette if they did that. I don’t bother doing that with any of the other roulettes, but when it comes to ADR there’s a pretty good chance of getting a run composed of banging your head against the wall for 20+ minutes before it’s abandoned. I don’t want the tomes that badly.

I don't expect that's going to change much, they're not going to make the MSQ a trial/dungeon/solo-instance gauntlet with a few cutscenes sprinkled in. I do enjoy this kind of stuff, but for example, earlier a poster was complaining about the Azim Steppe quests--which are generally held in high regard around here. It's clear there's a disconnect between what some people expect and what others enjoy. Dunno precisely how to diagnose it, but ultimately I can just say game isn't for everyone but I've been subbed since ARR launched so obviously I'm sold.

To use the examples provided, the Azim Steppe quests are more lauded than the Sylph ones because the Xaela tribes are more interesting than Sylphs. Also they're not trickster archetypes. Also you get to punch the Xaela that are the most dickish in the face free of guilt. More than once even.

Both sections of the MSQ are doing pretty much the same thing: they're introducing you to a culture. Notably there's also a bit more going on in the Steppe than with the sylphs: you get some character development, character introductions (in addition to the main NPC's of the area you also get Hien's) and your actions directly relate to what's going on in the plot (learning the culture leads to learning about the Nadaam and you help prep for it.)

Of course if you're skipping most of the dialogue and just going through the quest objectives as fast as possible you're missing a bunch of that.

Also the pacing of the Steppe is very intentional. It's a definite build up to the climax of the zone, and the game makes sure to take it's time to build it up (in addition to everything else I said above.) And while that time taken is padding, it's purpose isn't to waste your time. It's purpose is to pad things out and allow the story room to breath and flex and be a good story.

DD: Fondly regard abomination.

Dun Scaith is perfectly fine as long as you remind people of the blizzard IV -> aero IV combo before the first boss, and what to do with the blue and orange circles before the second boss. If people pull too fast then just sit outside the arena until you're done typing - the reminder will do much more good than the extra DPS. I've had the last five runs or so go without a wipe.

I found that particular area very annoying to navigate my first time through, with the multiple levels of the tower you could get off at and stuff I did get a bit turned around a few times. When you're able to fly in that area later it's great.

Unrelated, Late SHB: Just accepted the "A Feast of Lies" quest and am presumably about to assault Eulmore and beat the poo poo out of Vauthry. The reveal that meol is sin eater meat is loving gross and excellent, and Ryne's delivery of the line confirming it was so very soylent green that I laughed hysterically. Also the catboy who has been skulking about and spying, his line delivery of THAT old geezer's OFF HEEZ NUT! was hilarious.

There's a weird point system where literally anything FC members do earn credits that can be spent on poo poo, but we're the top 3 FCs on the server and have more credits than you could possibly spend so its not a big deal.

Most you can do to contribute is really just be nice and help people in chat, if you tank or heal then share your fast queues, if you're a crafter then craft junk for people, if you have info on hunts or rare fates or something then share it, that kind of thing

TPT is oriented towards newbies but the FC guildhall is in the Stormblood housing zone, so if you're completely new you can't access it until getting through all of ARR and HW. Unless I'm missing something about joining FCs.

Ignore my posts!
I'm aggressively wrong about everything!
Going back a page or so, I'm kinda stunned that people watched Y'shtola's conversation with Matoya and didn't get that it's confirming that Y'sh is blind now. they're super inconsistent about what her magic sight actually lets her see, especially in Shadowbringers, but I thought the intent was really obvious. Her eyes weren't grey before but are now, even, that's fictional shorthand for 'blinded' 100% of the time!

People give me crap for allegedly not paying attention, but how people missed that one I've got absolutely no idea.
