Box of Bunnies posted:Scomo will rule forever and Labor will vote for all his regressive culture war poo poo just like they voted for Howard's homophobic marriage amendment in 2004 Abbott's been out and about a lot in the past couple of weeks pushing the fundie bullshit agenda. Just today he was saying that legalising abortion is "infanticide on demand". It's my religious freedom to infringe on your personal freedom In a more perfect world we could say, "All right, believe what you like, but if what you believe goes against our laws, you face the consequences the same as anyone else." Also, any religious organisation which takes public monies would be cut off the loving second they start preaching bigotry. A democracy is the society we choose it to be together, no one should get free reign to persecute the innocent and powerless.

The New South Wales government is advising local councils to invoke terrorism fears to keep the location of potentially lethal flammable cladding secret from the public. ... Councils were advised to “consult” the planning department before making decisions, and were given examples of three common reasons to reject requests: the potential to affect property prices; to derail the taskforce’s work; or to create a risk of “terror” and arson. In one recent case, the state government cited all three in advising City of Ryde not to release cladding registers. The council rejected the concerns, and on Tuesday decided to release the register. The council’s decision stated that the NSW government did “not include any corroborated reasons why disclosure would reasonably be expected to result in an act of terrorism”.

Scott Morrison is literally worse than Tony Abbott. Every single time I hear him he's pushing some unimaginably cynical angle to exploit our worst qualities. He's a god drat menace and will likely be PM for 12 years.

i have a new anecdote from the jobseekersphere. today i was called up for a great opportunity to distribute catalogues. did you know the people who distribute those rolled-up bundles of catalogues into your mailbox every tuesday are paid $18 per thousand? they also have to sort them and roll them in their own time without pay, and provide their own elastic bands (lol). if you've never done this work, it takes about two hours to process a thousand catalogues and at least another three to distribute them, which comes to a grand total of about $3.60/hour. it took me some very pointed questioning to get the lifter in charge to tell me exactly what we would be paid per unit, because he just kept saying "about eighty dollars per week". in the end i turned down the great opportunity, but the two other women there with me (both of whom had obvious learning difficulties and probably couldn't quite do the necessary mental arithmetic on the spot) were very excited about the eighty-dollar figure and signed themselves up without hesitation. thank you for reading this inspiring story of job creation
