This is how they teach you to thin your paints in the CK studio Airbrush classes. They use the medicine cups, add paint, then add thinner and swish it around till it slides off the insides of the cup in a thin sheet. By mixing in the cup you can get much more consistent thinness.

Technically yeah you're right, though for the sake of having a consistent army colour scheme I just go with the idea that they painted temporary company markings while it was on operations with the 4th.

I think you could also puncture fuel tanks (and load your guns with magnesium rounds to make fuel tank explosions more likely). You could custom build aircraft with different gun calibers and ammo types, do long as you stayed under the airframe’s weight limit. The PC game had that feature, too. I really wish GOG or Steam or something would carry the old PC game.

Painted some more Infinity mechs. First time doing more than prime/basecoating with the airbrush. Hard to dial in what is too subtle or extreme. Glazed some blue into the armor and red into the spikes to make it more interesting. Wow do I hate edge highlighting. Guns could use more work, but I've burnt out on these guys and stopping here. C&C welcome, especially on the airbrushing and glazes.

Anyone have a recommendation for a citadel line white highlight? I am doing the Phantom half-masks on my Necron Destroyers, and have done Ceramite White with a second layer over it of White Scar, but I’d like the depth to pop a little bit more. I do own P3’s sickly skin if that’s a good choice

Been trying molding lately: It seems that with thermoplastic I'm really only capable of copying simple flat items. Anything that gets more dimensionally complex is a pipe dream when using putty it seems though. Maybe I'm just not skilled enough yet. I'm pretty curious to know if the thermoplastic will have issues losing its shape when using resin since that heats up quite a bit. Other observations: Pure greenstuff ensured the new bit was extremely flexible. Pretty great if I wanted to pin sculpted bits into certain positions. But for my purposes it was just too fragile. I mixed red milliput with greenstuff 1:1 and it gave a fantastic sculpt, but it left chunks behind in the mold when removed. You really have to be careful about the amount of material you've placed in the mold too, as it's easy to put too much in so it can't be properly closed anymore; this leads to some majorly phat-assed marines. I'm thinking I'll pick up some liquid blue stuff, some old rear end Legos, and try to make some silicone two part molds for these mint sprues I have. I'll clip the sprues into smaller segments to make it easier. If I fail at creating anything worthwhile I'll give up with the whole copying thing until I can get a 3d printer.

For white edge highligting, I use acrylic inks instead. Can get as good control without constantly needing to reapply paint to brush.

Ceramite White would be the highlight, you can’t really highlight pure white, unless I’ve misread.

I’m just starting out painting again 20 years after playing 40k as a kid. painted up some space marines real badly, then some necrons, now moved on to a set of Ork Nobz and boy it’s a big step up in how much detail there is! So many little leather straps and buckled and wires and buttons and poo poo. They’re really nice models though, I’m enjoying taking my time with them, even if it is taking me days just to get all the different base layers together

The real difficult part in my experience was getting rid of all the air bubbles in your resin. Tapping your mixing cup on a table gets rid of most of the bubbles created from mixing. But unless you’re somehow pouring in a perfect vacuum there’s going to be air trying to escape your mold as you pour the resin in. Getting rid of this is pretty difficult especially if you have lots of little details. Lots of vents built into your sprue and reeeaaallllly careful pouring helps a lot. I don’t want to discourage you from trying but it was messy, time consuming, and produced marginal results. So I stopped doing it

I've read about the issue with bubbles, and I think I'm going to use an old electric razor on the underside of the mold to shake all air bubbles out. I'm hoping cutting the sprues down to size will help increase the chance of a healthy cast. I'm thinking the channels to each item on the sprue will really help though, I'll post results. I found an excellent video that I'm going to copy so fingers crossed.

I took the jump today and tried out the gross purple Darth Vader skin that I was hoping to make a common thing in my army:  I went with Pallid Wych Flesh to help contrast the whites

hey guys. Here are some things off my bench. I've been working every day for the last 6 weeks and my next day off is like october 22nd. I'm on work time right now just a bit down so I thought I would put up some progress photos of my exploration with oils and what not. These are a couple marines done with traditional washes. They also have my contrast airbrush helmets with 1:1 ratio flow improver    now these wip as gently caress and are my blend of reds with a oil wash... Im going to mask off the model and spray that helmet with the super special flow/contrast thing as I like it.    Here are some non-wh stuff... The fire giant dude's gold has a oil wash and the ice giant guy has a oil wash on the skin. I worked forever on the fire giants skin with a brush and dont want to risk covering it...      I have some work to do on the sword and teeth for the fire giant. Basing for both. I really like working with the oil washes as they dont dry right away and you can really manipulate them after getting them on the model.
