Mantis42 posted:Reminder: the people who think Bartlett is the ideal president also uncritically repeat the meme that Bernie has never accomplished anything. I'm halfway through season 2 (of the podcast, not watching the show) and I don't think there has been a single tangible thing they have done yet that wasn't openly reactionary. I'm probably wrong, I listen to this like 9 eps at a time when driving home.

lol remember the time when toby is in a bar and meets the father of a girl that's gonna go to college and the father tells him he's not looking for a free ride, he ain't no freeloader, just for things to be a bit easier, you know so they make college costs tax deductible or something I mean you're writing this stuff and you don't think to put in a working class guy who can't send his kid to college but some middle class-upper middle class guy who just wants things to be a little bit cheaper it's pure propaganda for centrism, and I've got no beef with the propaganda part, propaganda is how you communicate with the masses, it's what they're shilling for that's crap

gradenko_2000 posted:is there any West Wing alum who's a Bernie bro? not full on from what I've seen oddly enough Richard Schiff voiced some support in the 2016 race as we live and breathe the show's universe it's sometimes easy to forget that it was filmed 20 years ago, so even the presumptively "most likely to be Sanders Sibs by virtue of their age" actors like Dule Hill (44) and Elisabeth Moss (37) are both brainpoisoned by wealth and not actually "young" at all. Moss is famously a Scientologist who actively deflects criticism of the fundamental contradictions between her "feminism" and her weird cult. Both had established careers that allowed them to dodge the material deprivation visited on even people of their age by the dot-com crash and the Great Recession.

Dule Hill is 44?! Way to make me feel old and yeah I wasn't holding out much hope given that they're all ultimately celebrities and actors, but thanks for checking gradenko_2000 has issued a correction as of 19:54 on Sep 8, 2019 |

surely James Cromwell appeared on an episode once... ... yep, he did, playing a president, in fact! I think that means it’s the episode where Bartlet attends a Presidential funeral with the guy who took over the Presidency for like forty-eight hours that John Goodman played and Cromwell is the other, actually elected President attending the funeral. It’s in the fifth season, aka the one with the “let’s have a liberal AND conservative Supreme Court justice, because golly gee they argue so good!” episode. edit: also now having watched this episode for the first time in like a decade this episode is hilariously bad too. They really poo poo their pants in the fifth season, my god, there’s not even any real drama, it’s twenty-something episodes of using one oar on one side of the boat The Cameo has issued a correction as of 02:36 on Sep 9, 2019 |

it's been a while, friends! Work is beating my rear end, love to be ground to a paste in service of investors Anyway It's time for some relationship building! and we're still kind of puzzled why it had to be done this way like, in every respect of this episode. Solidarity forever happy strike month comrades

Vox: The West Wing is 20 years old. Too many Democrats still think it’s a great model for politics.quote:https://twitter.com/sahilkapur/status/1170491979224014848 nothing here that hasn't been said on your podcast before, but I found it... interesting that a website as horrendously liberal as Vox was willing to make this critique, even if they also pull their punches (i.e. Joe Biden's record on civil rights, issues of race, crime, and even foreign policy are loving atrocious)

So I was treasonous-ly listening to the West Wing Thing podcast and they go off about how the actual people working in the White House are very competent and a plot where Leo's assistant is an idiot is not believable. How could anyone think that in the YOL 2019? If anything we have learned that the people working in the Obama WH were also idiots, W's admin was full of idiots, Clinton, H.W., Reagan, and so on. Remember when Rahm Emanuel was touted as some sort of high level brain genius for example? Jebuz...

Subjects of the Pharaoh had less reverence for their godking than many Americans have for their leaders. The myth of the meritocracy is absurdly strong.

Gunshow Poophole posted:really? Many otherwise intelligent people suffer from extreme decorum poisoning. I mean, what percent of Congress people can articulate a coherent policy position about ANYTHING without notes or an aid whispering into their ear? 5%? The concept that we are ruled over by a bunch of loving dipshit failsons, real estate grifters and transparent con artists is too horrifying to be directly contemplated. It is easier to cling to the fiction that these people are actually competent no matter the evidence to the contrary.

how many of y'all read this god drat book when you were a kid? Struggled to find some interstitial music this time because whoops we've done such a great job of exterminating indigenous people that they're almost unrepresented in a non-exploitative, non-patriarchal way in the entirety of popular culture! Great job, whites! However I'll note that my wife forced me to watch Marlon Brando's non-acceptance of his Oscar where he had a native woman get up on stage and preach like fifty loving years ago which I did not know about so, that's cool I guess.
