The LazyPurple servers are still going strong -- both their silly servers are at 30/30 capacity right now. Donations are optional, and don't appear to be pay-to-win (but will get you a reserved slot).

So I've been playing with the pyro items trying to do the contract because I've been bored lately and lmao these are all incredibly terrible items I can't believe how bad the gas passer is, and the dragon's fury is almost totally unusable. I don't understand why they made these items.

Yeah, you still kind of have to get in motherfuckers faces with it, but it can be surprisingly powerful once you get the hang of it. It is real hard to figure out how far the projectile travels though.

In fairness when they first came out they were way better. the gas passer was insanely overpowered in MvM, not that anyone really plays that any more. But the dragon's fury hosed up other pyros. Then they rebalanced stuff. It's still pretty neat if you get the right sort of map to get the jet pack and the back burner and just drop in behind people and toast their rear end by surprise at least.

Both Gas Passer and Dragon's Fury are still insanely overpowered in MvM. The Dragon's Fury fires fast and does triple damage (not considered a crit, so you can stack banner on top of it!) and the Gas Passer lets you sub for demoman very easily.

my big issue with the dragon's fury is the fact that your projectile is both a projectile and also made of particles, which is like, specifically designed to gently caress up because of tf2's netcode. I hate this flamethrower. e: I do find it extremely funny that in this, the pyro update, the pyro got a ton of extremely lovely gimmick items, meanwhile the joke item the heavy got is literally one of his best items Grapplejack fucked around with this message at 02:29 on Sep 11, 2019 |

despite all the odds that 4chan party van server was actually pretty okay the good majority of the time and when it wasn't it wasn't really any worse than uh. well. the average server in an fps game.

The hot hand is actually super good for a silly gimmick weapon. Not enough to use it over his other options but it's not like, shamefully bad like the other items in the pack.

I really like the Dragon's Fury. It's got better range than the flamethrower, no ramp-up, and it's consistent -- I know how much damage I'll be dealing with it. Compare this to the flamethrower, to where the damage ramp-up will reset randomly, or fail to accrue if the target is against a wall, or a million other reasons. Of course, if you can't aim, then you're hosed, which is a bigger deal than usual given that part of the point of pyro is trading the need to aim for a much higher dependence on positioning.

I mean you're also constantly gambling with source's particle and projectile hitboxes, not to mention that you lose the ability to spycheck easily. I'd rather have the flamethrower's weird rampup issues rather than the engine going "gently caress you, you miss, respawn"

DF and Detonator makes for a very unique and fun playstyle.

I helped playtest that map on the TF2Maps server when it was still in its early days. It's nice to see it all fully furnished and in the game, it's probably my favourite of the maps that got added last year. Speaking of custom Halloween maps, I really hope this one gets added. Not only does it look good, it even has interactive carnival games!
