The Divide is quite good, and he does some nice visualisations. e.g. demonstrating the growing north/south divide from his blog

that seems to be taking orwell out of context. in the chapter he's saying that the typical english left-winger knows empire is bad, and knows class distinctions are bad, but doesn't really do anything about it:

Orwell was deeply flawed but I think Road to Wigan Pier is one of the most interesting insights into bourgeois attitudes towards the poor, even among ostensibly left oriented ones like Orwell

the impression I get of Orwell from homage to Catalonia is that he was an idealist who went to Spain to fight the fascists and then bumbled into the suppression of the POUM which shocked his sensibilities
