Turns out Davy's hook is on his left hand. http://www.paranatural.net/comic/chapter-5-page-277 I was a little doubtful of it actually being Davy in there, but covering a hand with a costume hook and a hook with a costume hand seems exactly the kind of thing Zack would do.

yeah right on the comic where they realize they made the art error and first puts it correctly they note "hook is on the wrong hand on purpose" as for the detail of 'well then how is davy clearly manipulating the fake hand the hook is under', he can twist space to the point of sinking into the ground, faking a hand seems like a bush league move at that point
