Due to the interest I've been getting in PMs I went back and modified the post to include our open positions for engineers & support engineers as well. We're hiring for those roles as well, automation, devops, front end, database, UX, performance, you name it. The catch is those are almost all based out of San Carlos.

Just to clarify, you're only stuck around DC if you're on the federal side (i.e.: You have a security clearance). Commercial consultants get to WFH/travel. Engineers have to live in the Bay area - sorry. But consulting is more fun, anyways! On the other hand, if you have clearance and you love DC but hate to travel as much as us commercial suckers, good news! KillHour fucked around with this message at 04:00 on Sep 11, 2019 |

I believe the other position is being offered to a goon (or a friend of a goon), so maybe we can luck out again. My coworker is the friend of the goon. He's totally jazzed and the healthcare goes way, way further than anyone would expect. Those benefits are awesome. I would've hopped right on it was it not a 3 hour round trip commute and my girlfriend hadn't *just* moved here from 3 hours away and we signed a lease. Here's hoping something opens up at the office in the city I'm in because *drat* it'd be nice to work for this place.

This is not officially open or posted yet but it will be very soon and I want to fill it ASAP, figured I'd give it a shot here to see if anyone happens to be in the area and interested. Job opening: IT Specialist, Full Time M-F Who we are: A local Credit Union with 5, soon to be 6 locations. Currently ~60 employees. Where we are: Syracuse, NY area Who we are looking for: This could be an entry level job (basic helpdesk/support), however if someone with the right experience is interested then the role could possibly change a bit (e.g. if you have a lot of experience with cyber security, I may put you in charge of that in addition to other responsibilities. No guarantees for this as I'd have to get approval from the higher-ups.). - Amongst others things, duties would involve responding to incoming support tickets and phone calls; AD, phone, and email system administration; configuring and installing new hardware and decommissioning old equipment. Lots of other things I won't list here but I'll give you more info if you ask. - Travel between branches is required, so you need your own vehicle and a valid driver's license. You will be reimbursed for any mileage. - Being a financial institution you'll need to be bondable (i.e. pass a background check) - Some basic IT work/school experience is needed, but I'm not setting any minimum requirement. For education, at least an Associate's or equivalent is preferred. I will consider any candidates on a case-by-case basis though. - Relevant certifications are a plus but not required. - Good people skills - some customer service experience is a plus here. You're gonna be dealing directly with employees a fair amount of the time and will need to be patient with the occasional really dumb problem Why you should work here? - We're a local, not-for-profit financial institution that focuses a lot on education for members and the community. - Pretty standard benefits (insurance/PTO/etc) plus benefits specific to us being a credit union - discounts on loan rates, waived charges/fees for various things. Incentive programs that give small bonuses a couple times a year plus a yearly bonus during the holidays. - You'd have a lot of freedom as I am the only other IT person and I don't micromanage (and I won't yell at you for occasionally browsing the forums at work ) If interested, contact me by PM or email at dpiwinski@gmail.com

This is not in the right format, but I’m on a touchscreen and just want to get it posted. Toronto: eng mgr, sr eng, IT generalist, dir product mgmt, dir design. relo/visa for everything but the IT position because frankly that pool looks pretty strong local - engineering manager, probably 2-4 years experience in management and a moderately-distinguished career as a developer before that. team of 5 growing to 8 over the next 6 months. help us design our org and processes, grow and recruit amazing developers, learn a ton about cloud and AI and privacy and who knows what else. ideally you’ve been part of a team evolving tools and practices and strategies, but if not this is your chance to ride that ride. you take pride in helping your reports and colleagues succeed, and see management as a way to use your coaching skills and empathy to help people accomplish things that surprise them. - senior engineer, probably 5-8 years of experience building systems with a lot of moving parts. you have worked in multiple environments with different tools and processes, and you can apply your systems design experience in a stack that’s new to you. you like helping other engineers grow, and other teams succeed, and customers rejoice. you can quickly figure out which corners can be cut, and which aspects are totally non-negotiable. if you have experience helping teams build code and tools and practices to maintain a high bar of security and privacy, I’m especially interested. - IT generalist. get our conference room displays on a vlan so I can stop ranting about it, script tools for HR and business processes, figure out how to structure our VPN into different AWS infrastructure, 802.11x, backups?, SSO and centralized identity, multipath upstream internet because a month ago I had half my division tethered to my phone and tablet while Rogers pulled their finger out, designing a great remote meeting experience, provisioning laptops in a way that doesn’t involve my VP Engineering having to click through MacOS installers, rolling out and integrating tools for performance reviews and cataloguing internal video libraries and other stuff you’ll come up with and get permission and budget to do because the whole point is for you to use your judgment to make poo poo better. we’re a fair ways from this being a team lead role, but there may well be contractors to wrangle. don’t know how to do all that stuff but you think you can pick it up? I’m interested. - directors of product management and design. you probably know what those jobs are if you’re in the market. teams of 3-5, growing to ~8 each over the next yearish. substantial strategic impact. very strong teams who you will grow and etc etc all these positions report up into me, which could be a plus or a minus I guess best company culture you’ve ever worked in by a long shot, multi-year runway, customer revenue (but pre-profit and pre-PMF, so there is certainly risk). entirely reasonable comp, but we’re not going to out-bid Google. training budget of “make a good case”. we’ve fired recruiting agencies for bringing us only white dudes. we check salaries against market twice a year, independent of merit/promotion raises, because you shouldn’t have to take a new job to keep up with the market price for your skills. very strong privacy and technology ethics values, which really do shape our product and operations and spending. don’t care if you have a degree for any of this (I don’t), as long as you can do the work. we’re attached to a subway station (St Patrick)! we have excellent stickers! you will genuinely like your coworkers! currently we are 3/82 goons, which doesn’t seem like enough all positions are in Toronto. I could be convinced to do redo/visa for any of them but the IT position. Looking for Contract work - Bored without a day job so I'd like to get back into the IT field now that our startup is on autopilot. I am New Zealand based so I'd be looking for remote work. I have 11 years of experience in mixed programming/dev fields and business management operations - tech wise, I've touched just about everything now but primarily NodeJS/C#/PHP with some hardware experience. I have familiarity with running small teams and some steering of a startup business. I'm looking for contract work - ideally large and complicated projects, ideally web based. Happy to full any role - architect, team lead, developer, etc - mostly just keen to get my hands on a keyboard again. Can contact me at joospotter at gmail.

Job openings: I work for the University of Michigan, and the central IT department (ITS) just posted 40 new positions. Infrastructure, networking, programming; there's a huge variety. Check out the list here: http://careers.umich.edu/search/adv...artment=&title= If this link doesn't display a list of jobs, go to http://careers.umich.edu/search/ and filter by career interest of Information Technology. The jobs were all posted 9/25/2019 and department should start with ITS. Pros of working at the University of Michigan: -The benefits are incredible: 2:1 retirement matching up to, 5 weeks PTO plus the week between Christmas and New Years off every year (and there is a separate pool for sick time), excellent health care, etc: https://hr.umich.edu/benefits-wellness -Pay is imho very good but I'm sure lower than private sector -Lots of training and conference opportunities, you can take university classes as well for free/at a discount -University life is overall extremely chill Cons: -You'll be on call (depends on the specific posting) -100% remote is not going to happen -The pace can be very slow at times -Depending on the position, you'll probably be a small cog within the huge University machine. Change comes slowly. -Parking loving sucks if your job is on campus -CoL in Ann Arbor is high As of 4 months ago I no longer work for ITS so I don't have any sway in getting you one of these jobs, but I can probably answer some general questions if anyone has them. If you want to apply for my old job as a Windows server admin, which I can absolutely provide specific info about, it's this one: http://careers.umich.edu/job_detail/178742/windows_system_administrator_intermediate

Job opening: Infrastructure Analyst (my current position) Shoot me a PM if you have any questions or are interested in applying. This is my current position and I will be vacating in early January but we want to have some overlap with the new hire if possible so I can perform some of the onboarding and training. We are the infrastructure team for the University ERP system, my job is a lot of Redhat and Oracle administration and working special projects. I think my boss is expecting to hire someone without my strong background in those, so if that's the case you'd be more focused on learning the web app side of things and spreading that work around the team. Someone coming in with a strong Linux administration or Oracle background would probably be more of a direct replacement for me. Who we are: A large public university Where we are: Richmond, Virginia Who we are looking for (from the listing) Minimum Standards Demonstrated experience in Unix OS navigation and commands, shell scripting and application installations and troubleshooting. Knowledge of code repositories, application servers (weblogic and tomcat), web servers (apache), Unix administration, database administration and concepts. Demonstrated knowledge of systems analysis and ability to define and develop solutions to meet user requirements and resolve problems. Demonstrated organizational, communication and interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive attitude and work well within the IT community and its operational clients. Strong PC skills. Bachelor degree preferred in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent demonstrated experience in related work. Preferred Hiring Standards Experience with command line Oracle SQL via SQLPlus and understanding of Oracle database objects and structures. Knowledge of Tomcat and Apache server administration. Knowledge of enterprise network architecture.Knowledge of common technology security structures. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, Google Apps, TOAD. Ability to integrate knowledge of different technical areas and systems to achieve desired results. Why you should work here:

Company: Citizen Location: Financial District, New York City Role: iOS or Android Engineer The public-safety app Citizen is in need of full-time (IC2+) iOS and Android engineers to develop a host of new features to address natural disasters, such as the fires in California. It’s one of the few mobile apps that can directly save people’s lives, which may sound like Silicon Valley bullshit, but there are a lot of stories like one user who discovered his building was on fire through a Citizen push notification. The pay and benefits are pretty generous, and the company is about to start a big growth period, so now is a great time to jump on board. Work from home is available (I do it 2 days per week). Most people are agreeable and easy to work with. There will be some hand-holding for users who need to learn how to do things, but typically no major hurdles. Salary and benefits are good, not spectacular but not impoverishing either. Health, dental, vision and 401(k) all included. Office dress code is casual (!) and the atmosphere is rarely high-pressure.
