The Senate trial began on January 7th, 1999 and the Senate vote (to acquit) was February 9th, 1999. The timeline here (at least the first part, in the House) might be a bit longer since they're likely to be dealing with more charges (in Clinton's case, they voted on 4 charges, only two of them passed and went on to the Senate). For Trump I'm thinking we'll have either double or triple the charges (to drag out as much information as possible).

What would be the best play? Impeaching him fairly quickly and then hammering him on it through the primaries and the conventions? Voting to impeach a couple of weeks before the election? Or keep it going through 2020 and maybe even 2021 should he win?

Trump's real problem at that point would become getting arrested by one state or another (or Pence's DOJ, for that matter) for the crimes that led to Republicans voting to convict, which would have to be colossal.

I know its an unlikely event (even if said phone call was a party call with Putin), I just had no idea what would happen.
