Thats why Sanders and Corbyn in their respective countries, people who by most accounts have been lifelong and self-avowed socialists even when it wasn't politically expedient to name themselves as such, are adored by working class voters in the midwest/south-east.

quote:

“Democrats are becoming way too extreme,” Shaun Majors, a 42-year-old high school graduate who has worked at the nearby Beaver Valley Power Station for almost his entire adult life, said before last week’s event began. “I voted for Trump last time, and I would again.”

...

Daniel Keener, a 72-year-old Democrat who retired after more than two decades at the nearby power plant, said his party has moved “way too far left.”

“Every one of them wants to take my gun,” said Keener, motioning to the handgun clipped to his left pocket. He said he’s committed to Trump in 2020, but he’ll likely maintain his Democratic registration because he’s “a union man” and his family has a long history with the party.

...

At the union protest just down the street, 60-year-old power plant electrician Terrence Ankrom, a registered Democrat, isn’t so optimistic about the future of his party.

He shared his concerns with two friends while waiting for the rally to begin. All three voted for Trump.

They laughed when asked whether they had Twitter accounts. One pointed to his flip phone.

He immediately switched to the republican party op.

Isn't just voting literally the least effort you can do that brings about the least change? Sure, voting is important in a properly open society but doing nothing else except voting every four years is ineffectual to do anything for meaningful change. It should be "Vote, and also organise and make community activism a thing"

yeah it's the essentially-nothing people who do nothing can get all huffy and self-righteous about. Also if you actually organize in your community you know it's excruciatingly slow and dull and it takes years of work to start to see results for even the smallest thing like "I want a park that doesn't give kids tetanus", let alone anything bigger where you're being fought every step of the way by people with immeasurably more resources than you. Small wonder people barely getting through the day often don't have the energy to go at it fulltime (it's because the stupid proles are content with their lot in life like the cattle they are, and everything they do is about upsetting you personally)

Both parties are very much pro-Capitalism. The differences are regulation.

It's not worth pushing anything else at this point, Capitalism and technology advancement are incompatible.

normal people are not energized by the sort of "pro-business" poo poo the democrats preach. most people do not entertain the idea of being a small business owner, which takes a certain kind of psychopathy to accomplish. most people are resigned to being a powerless cog in a machine, and they don't want to hear about how you're going to make the machine prettier or faster or whatever. people do love it when bernie sanders calls out the waltons and jeff bezos etc because everybody hates rich people

Yep, it does. But in the end we're in the middle of an automation revolution that will only end with no actual "jobs". Everyone will be pulled kicking and screaming into a Socialist society whether they want it or not. So let it just happen. A world wide disaster that causes a reset would still only delay the inevitable. The most we can do at this point is just try and make life as good as possible with what we currently have without being assholes, which is where regulation steps in. One party wants perceived accountability, another is gently caress you got mine.

the US oligarchy has been explicitly clear since the end of WW2 that they are able and willing to exterminate the entire human race rather than loose their hold over it, and whether they themselves survive the apocalypse is more or less a secondary consideration.

the commentariat and their "taking orders from the rich" editors are the ones driving this, and it's obvious at this point that they'd much rather pretend some millionaire local Republican leader is an unaffiliated blue collar worker than actually interview people who actually vote for Dems. like most of the ones churning all these pieces out literally have a stable of people they contact for quotes that are all affluent, conservative retirees

any time one of them veers into actual voters the people running it end up having an existential crisis as they realize nobody in the real world thinks the insider politics worldview is smart or correct, that Third Way safari ended up being like this and they still ran a report on it that said all the stuff they agreed, like finding the 3 people who said they want to see charter schools expanded and how regulations are killing the markets. No space at all was given to the overwhelming majority of people who said stuff like how they don't want to come together and they think the Republicans and the rich are out to destroy the world and the Dems are merrily cashing checks for rubberstamps
