Forcing someone to be your robot slave if you want to play 3-player in the campaign in Gears 5 is stupid as hell but I can't stop laughing at it

Especially since half the enemies can just slap it out of the sky and kill it immediately

This generation has been "better-looking 360 games" as hell and it's a shame. Hitman-type games that truly couldn't have been done before are so vanishingly rare this time around.

I enjoyed the last guardian - the game that could be done on ps3, but only at 1 frame per minute and sped up into a fake gameplay video for e3.
Hoping ps5 can finally play it without the awful framerate issues ps4 has. Love dat dog monster

The biggest game of the generation is a port of a game that came out a month before the consoles launched that has spent six years hoovering up money selling griefer toys and if that ain't just the whole drat story of the PS4/XBO gen I don't know what is.

Next gen GTA but with better online would always be the biggest game ever. That doesn't say anything but those games are fun and good as always.

It can't be stated enough how bad the last gen versions ran. Those were the true cash grabs.

I just wanted to play Gears 1 because I'd never played it before and I wanted something a little less mindless that I can play while listening to podcasts and such.

Space Marine is the most comparable to Gears as 40k games go, but it has a completely different feel than Gears, I mean, its the complete oppsite of a cover shooter. To regain health you kill enemies in melee.

Speaking of Xbox games I've never played, wasn't Master Chief Collection suppose to be on game pass around now?

All of R*'s online poo poo still sucks rear end. It's slightly more stable I guess but the UI and matchmaking is as bad as it's ever been. It's insane that they haven't thrown a ton of money at some outside people to clean it up. Their code must truly be a hodge podge of nonsense that no one but them can make heads or tails of.

I actually really like Gears aesthetic when it allows itself to be. Like in Gears 4 the opening level was both pretty and inventive for a cover shooter and Gears 5 all of Act 3 and good chunks of late Act 1 where you fight through a recently destroyed city are beautiful. Then you get to "its a cold mountain" and "its a swampy ruined city" for the 37th time in the franchise and it sucks

My fav part of gears 4 was when this cool lightning storm thing was happening and you had to get to shelter but if you ran you would die because the gears run is like steering a barge and the correct answer was to walk calmly through the lightning

They are just garbage at doing anything other than making a single player game. I don't get why they put so much effort into making single player campaigns in their games and then totally ignore them after release. And then they put 0 effort into the multiplayer but keep making GBS threads out more and more content for it.

I think beating up whales' wallets is fine if that's what f2p games want to do but companies still treat every single player like a prototype gambling addiction serum test subject and it's really not necessary. Like just make a decent game and be less abusive, is that so much to ask?

Barudak

Theres so much extra money to be had from the whales if you land them is the problem. Like a friend of mine did business research for a game where one guy was spending so much money on the game they added new things to buy in the game explicitly for them. If your game suddenly gets like, Saudi Arabia themed soccer gear you'll know what happened.

Some whales spend so much on the game by themselves that the company can justifiably hire a full-time person just as a personal liaison with the company for them. Why cap what someone can spend on a game at $60-120 if you can remove the cap outright so some people are literally spending like $60-100k+ a year?

The sad truth is gamers are notoriously lacking in discipline and the ones who actually stick to their guns and refuse to buy a gaming thing due to some sense of principles is basically a rounding error, and are very much offset and then some even if only a single Saudi prince or Chinese entrepreneur gets hooked.

Yeah but I'm saying I don't have a problem with that Saudi Prince or the companies willingness to fleece him for a digital Gucci belt. If that's the business model already why the gently caress do they need to squeeze blood out of the rest of us stones and make the whole thing not fun? If that's where the money is then just let everyone else enjoy a decent game that can build a large audience that might buy a small thing now and then if they like it enough.

I don't mind P2W as long as you have a good ranking system, grinding isn't prohibitive and the games are still primarily skill based. All that means is rich people are playing with people who know the mechanics better than they do. Stuff like Hearthstone and the now-defunct Star Wars phone Moba were mostly good about this. I think the HS grind and card crafting system are too stingy but I've played for years and spent relatively little on it and I can still whip up ok decks and buy 1-2 legendaries I want every 3 months or so.

I stand by last gen being the one where video games got visibly worse, and I put the blame squarely on the mid-sized developers either dying or getting bought by the big companies like EA and Ubisoft. Up until that point, there was always a sense of continual progress in games, both in terms of graphics and the potential to do more things in them. poo poo, I still remember the talking point from last gen that there can be true story-driven masterpieces with the kinds of advances in console power that it brought. And if last generation planted the seeds of doubt, this generation is all of that bearing rotten fruit. Plot and individual enjoyment are actively discouraged because there's no money in it.

Nobody ITT posted the Jim Sterling video where he puts the blame on Microsoft for much of the worst excesses of the AAA video game industry. I think calling them the prime mover is a bit much because the EAs and Activisions of the world would have done it without their approval, but the Xbox One shoehorning microtransactions into their exclusives certainly didn't help.
