I made another thing, this time going for a bit of an on-off gimmick in smb1 forest night theme. Also some giant mario maneuvers on precarious platforms. I also hid a star in the level MPV-S9K-7QF Dirty River Rafting - Ride some bill blasters down the poisonous river, avoiding the cheep cheeps that live there. Use on/off blocks to proceed! ...But you can't help but feel like you're being watched...

Got another level hot off the presses. Check it out! Spirit Spire - P6B-L0X-4HF I've got a week and a half without a reliable internet connection coming up so I filled my downloaded cache with levels from Random Acts of Mario. Preemptive thanks to you goons for occupying my evenings! Since I got around to it, I might as well post the thumbnails for my other levels. Give them a try if you haven't.

I feel like story boarding my levels might help. I generally pick an element I haven't used yet (Moon themes, clown copter, etc), and then goof off with interesting combinations for a while. I make notes on what's fun (some mental, some written), and find ways to build puzzles and challenges with that. Once you mix in a few "breather" areas with power-ups and check-points, you should have close to a complete level. Winging it presents a lot of traps. It's harder to escalate the difficulty, and it can lead to too much creep with additional stage elements. To your point, it's also easier to run out of steam, since you have an unplanned and seemingly insurmountable task ahead of you.

Thread geniuses: How can I ensure a vine will come out the bottom of a block? A bouncy block works, but the setup is stage is scrolling down and I want the player to climb down a vine as the stage moves downwards and the vine moves back and forth on a track. How can I ensure the player hits the block so the vine comes out the bottom, if said block is moving back and forth on a small track?

Thwomp or ground pound to get a downwards vine on a rail (so thwomp only if playing in a non-ground-pound mode). You can't just block off the top of the question mark block like you can when it's static because of the different clipping properties of objects on a rail. Sample setup (apologies for the terrible pic quality): The switch block is only necessary if you want to drop the moving vine onto a more complicated track layout - if it's just a horizontal back-and-forwards you can omit the switch block and track splitter entirely. So I've fallen behind since my last post but still wanted to take part in the goon world, so... MSS: Asteroid Processing Plant MRT-TBH-T0H Also made a couple other stages in the interim though I think they're kind of crappy Another Bowser boss rush but in Mario World this time and much more difficult and probably worse. The fastest clear is 13 minutes. Bowser World Fights are Okay 7F7-RT1-SVF I kept loving up the space stage because I kept having to make it like a bit from Illusion of Gaia because I replayed it recently, so instead of screwing up a concept for MSS I just spun it out into it's own thing. I don't know how recognizable it is from the game but I'm proud of the thumbnail at least. IoG: Dark Gaia 9JJ-C3W-7YF I do want to come back and play stages I've missed but also my playing of other games dropped off a cliff once this released and I needed to play something else.

I made a stage for Mario Solar System, but I'd like to know if it'd be a good fit. It's supposed to be like a first or second stage, where Mario takes a rocketship to space to counter the invasion. I concentrated on the rocket ride, so it's more novelty and set dressing than actual Mario platforming. Is that OK for this world? MSS: Blastoff! 1B7-CWB-DLF

I traded my 3do and games for a switch and games, and like the WiiU before it I've done nothing but Mario maker. I can't bring myself to play anything but vs. it's so fun heckin up kids (I'm usually the one being hecked, but I'm just laughing the whole time). I still need a controller, the joycons are killing my thumb. But I ordered an 8bitdo adaptor to use a PS4 controller it's just a waiting game now. I'm debating getting one of the Official SNES Switch Controllers, has anyone tried them?

My backlog of games is laid to rest for now outside of a few things here and there so trying to get back into actually doing stuff with this game. I feel like I just make classic no gimmick levels but honestly it's just what I enjoy I think this is a fine "midgame" type difficulty stage if it were in a actual game, so it's not meant to wrack up kills or anything- and there are a handful of 1-ups and big coins to pick up.
