There's a strong sense of empathy, all countries mentioned being similarly domineered by a single head of state and their party for multiple decades. The fact they used them on armed fighters from a designated terrorist group is probably a big factor too, no? Its going to be rather hard to drum up sympathy for such people, light gassing or no light gassing.

Indeed, it does show that among the international community the supposedly firm position against chemical weapon use is rather flexible, which isn't great for the prevention of chemical weapon use in future conflicts. There's already reports of sulphur mustard use in Sudan back in 2016, so it's definitely an issue that goes beyond Syria. Randarkman posted:They're still using chemical weapons.
