Personally you should have printed out a bunch of informational pamphlets/flyers and just distributed them throughout the convention, informing people of a bunch of information that has come up in the deposition and testimonies for the case (with corresponding url links) and just sit back and let the natural course of events unfold.

Man, I don't even have an opinion here. Then again, there were enough assholes to reach like 250k for Vic's legal funds.

One of the most toxic things I have heard from people as rumor was the number of cons over the years who had heard he was a scummy guy but also made sure he was a guest because he was one of the reason the con would break even. This is all hearsay but hearing it from people who this fact was depressing for was a WTF moment.

I mean if you're willing to put someone in a position to abuse children just so your anime con can happen you probably shouldn't be running an anime con.

Replace "anime con" with literally any other celebration of media and you have the last 40 years of such events.

That's probably true, especially post-FMA on Toonami. The plastic-faced little gremlin would pack out audience halls.

We went to a sorta-local con in 2016 or 2017 and went to his panel (all the seats were filled).
It was kinda interesting at the time, but the thing that sticks out in my mind the most is that near the end he asked the audience if they knew what "glomping" was and then picked out a volunteer to demonstrate it. He had her take a running start down the aisle and jump into his arms, and I think the crowd actually applauded.

My partner and I walked away after saying "that was weird, right?" to ourselves
but everything since has made it feel even grosser and more sinister.

Director of Voice Work is not only not a real job title, it's not a job that one would hold at Funimation, due to the dubbing work being mostly contracted out to Okratron 5000 and not done in-house.

Isn't the deadline that the judge gave October 4th? Unless everyone is expecting things to be a quick meeting of Go gently caress Yourself/No, You Go gently caress Yourself, I would think an actual mediation and creating of proper legal documents would take more time than that.

i'm under the impression that mediation is generally done in one day, whether it involves both sides being locked in a room until they come to a decision is up to the mediator

Mediation could be favorable in that he might agree with some settlement with the defendants that pays them less than the judge would charge him that includes some sort of nda.

Assuming some sort of settlement involves: All laywers fees; some sort of promise not to pursue further action; and statements on all parts. All of which seem like the most reasonably favorful thing for Vic.

Vic gets:
* To stop spending money on a laywer.
* Probably to not be found to be libelproof.
* To claim some form of victory.

Ty gets to not have to pay a bunch of fines.

Defendants get to stop being put through this. Jamie doesn't have to do anything technically since all the charges against her are dismissed but at least she wont' have to go through appeals. and like the judge said, who knows what some other judge is going to think. Funimation proooobably doesn't care? It's probably barely a line item to them so they're likely happy to pay for whatever legal proceedings they need. Rial & Toye probably have the most to gain since charges haven't been dismissed yet and there is a small chance at least one of them gets to trial (And also likely don't have the same resources everyone else does to keep fighting).

This isn't like a labor v employer mediation, which is usually drawn out and ugly and hateful. There's a professional third-party that serves as the mediator and tries to get everything squared away

Yeah. If Vic just wants to keep slamming his dick in the door and the mediator can't find a resolution it's kicked back to the courts for more legalizing.

I think he got dropped at around the time when that Shield Hero anime started airing because some guy on twitter did fanart of Vic dressed like the MC of that when it turned out Funi dropped his rear end? Like Vic is no longer working with Funi in any capacity.

Yep, Vic digs in, it'll go back to the judge who will probably drop the remaining cases, and saddling Vic with all of the legal fees plus punitive measures to discourage future lawsuits. Vic could then appeal, but he and Ty can't amend their case, so the same disaster would go to the appeals court which would probably stomp on Vic again, now with even more legal fees.

The question will be how much is Vic being sold a bill of goods by Ty and Nick vs. them all possibly being aware they're screwed, and that no matter how good the grift is now, it could end with Vic losing lots of money, Ty losing his practice and in that Nick losing the manager of his trust money.

If there's any sense from Vic & co., they should be begging to only have to pay for Funi, Jamie, Monica and Ron's legal bills with no other preconditions. This is last good off ramp.

I think y'all are maybe putting your hopes too high? The defendants probably want this case to be over. They might just be fine with them paying the legal fees and calling it a day. Unless Vic's lawyers are stu...oh yeah. I'm not even joking here, by the way. I legitimately saw people fantasizing how this can all explode and though "no, that's too silly: its going to be more mundane than that; don't get your hopes up." But, as I was typing the sentence, it dawned one me that it could go down that way easily.

I think it's worth noting that the defendants wanting the case to be over probably doesn't go hand-in-hand with anything that gives Vic a plausible deniability because they still have to deal with what comes after.
