First time playing the game, is there a reason for one battle mode or the other? I like classic but is there a benefit to being able to move. My team freely in a fight?

Nope. It's something to idly fiddle with and position your team so you think they look cool. No mechanical element whatsoever.

Is it just me or is it harder to craft a +3 item in 2d mode? I just got the forge and have been trying without success to get a +3 divine dagger, even with what looked to me like perfect rolls. The nice thing is at least in 2d mode you can spam load and craft without the 5 minutes of downtime they put in the PS4 version. edit: Doesn't seem like you can look at the +1/+2/+3 improvements on gear for perfection pearls in 2d mode, so may be best to craft in 3d mode whenever possible. My copy of the game was undeliverable today because the UPS man happened to show up when everyone at the leasing office was out to lunch and I was at work (missed him by 15 minutes ), but in the meantime I have a question since the Switch is region-free. Is there any version in any part of the world that is in languages besides English and Japanese? Obviously I can read English or I wouldn't be here, but I am curious as I recently was very lucky and snagged an EU copy of Link's Awakening that's in 9+ languages.Detective No. 27 posted:It really doesn't look like the S enhancements are going to end up as DLC for the other versions. Nintendo considers it as a full on remake rather than a port/re-release. Also I heard that Yuji Hori said that a Switch version of DQXI was a dying wish from Satoru Iwata. Tell me all about those Switch ports. Honestly, I had already assumed that they were straight mobile rips just without the mobile bit, but I would love to be proven wrong.

2D mode is completely ruined by having an insane random encounter rate. Kingsbarrow having to fight 3 little devils every four steps is way too much for your resources to hold out. If you spent your magic vials recovering before the boss, then died to the boss you better reload your save because getting back to it with full MP is impossible.

How does 2D mode handle the more complex city areas with hidden treasure on the rooftops and poo poo? Pretty gracefully?

Playing without Harder Monsters is fine. When I played through the game I'd see posts about boss X or Y and noticed everyone talking about it was multiple levels higher. Fighting normal Slayer of Sands at level 12 or 13 really isn't too different from people doing it at 17-18 on hard mode.Josuke Higashikata posted:Happy Sylvando day to my Switch friends Time for everyone to play Untitled Sylvando Game. Just beat the Slayer myself. Had a few close shaves but managed pretty well. Also Sylvando rules hardcore.

So I've been coasting through stronger monsters, just wrecked slayer of the sands on the first try. I'm not sure if it's just because I've done it before or if the little QOL improvements have made that much of a difference. I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop, probably at the Phnom Nonh boss. Holy poo poo, that was a roadblock my first time through the game.

A big key for beating Slayer on Hard mode is finding out it doesn't resist poison that well. I resspec'ed Erik into Cobra Strike -> Victimizer and he was doing 300+ damage at level 16 every few turns.

I forget the combo but Erik + others can do a much stronger version of his DoT pep power and I'm pretty sure anyone who has access to it can use it to just wreck the Slayer too because even at low levels it's like 100+ damage per round for 5-6 rounds or so.

Yep, this is how I beat it the first time. I did it at 15, though, and Hard Slayer is rough at that level. It's got Baramos-scale HP and you more or less need a damage source like the combo pep to get through the HP pool in time without access to Midheal. You really should get to 16 for Midheal, it makes the fight far easier.

I did Harder Monsters and Game Over if Protaganist dies. The later option is literally stripped from Persona since if he dies then you are booted straight to the main menu instead of the nearest church. Not a huge deal since autosaves are pretty frequent but a long dungeon haul can be for nothing because you got Whacked.

The Golden Reins let you cheese the horse races with infinite sprint. This is actually loving HUGE once you get to the final end of the races because holy poo poo. Also the ability to use glamoured gear without having to equip it (i.e always have the DQ8 outfit for example) doesn't let you be default appearance while wearing something appearance altering. Did they include a system that allows you to wear some of the alt outfits if you own them or have worn them previously, ala what Builders 2 allows? I felt like that was kind of missing from the OG version of XI.

Is there anything to be gained from playing slime quest manually? It's fun to watch on autoplay and also seems like it's pretty much random either way.
|
# ? Sep 28, 2019 11:38 |

Ok so I've now watched slime quest on autoplay for like two hours while doing other stuff My conclusion is that it's complete bullshit and winning has absolutely nothing to do with how big of a party you've managed to gather or any other factor that might seem like it's relevant but it sure is fun to watch! Also, it's pretty much just free tokens for no effort as long as you're around to press the autoplay button every few minutes. E: Oh yeah, and I still haven't managed to gather all the orbs on the side of the machine. You can bet I'll be doing this all day until I figure out what getting those actually does. Amppelix posted:Ok so I've now watched slime quest on autoplay for like two hours while doing other stuff The Slime Quest slot machine is completely out of your hands and gives a trickle of tokens IIRC. If you want to actually afford stuff in the casino just play the normal slots and save when you have a good payout. Eventually you'll end up in metal mode and if you hit a jackpot you're set (for that part of the game anyways).

I got about 90k tokens from my three or so hours of slime quest (on the middle level machine.) I wouldn't call that a trickle but it's definitely not fast either. Pretty efficient for only mildly engaging in it and doing other things while it's going though. Much better than having to spam confirm to get stuff out of the normal slot machine. Why couldn't that have autoplay too?? And yes, I didn't get all the orbs. I got 4 pretty fast and then the later ones never came. It probably only gives you some relatively small amount of tokens anyway. Or I dunno, maybe it gives you the jackpot?
