luncheon meat posted:I will always love him. He's been doing live shows lately too The_Continental posted:Tell me about this LPC is the GOAT I went to one of his live appearances last year at a tiny record store in LA. It was one of the oddest shows I have attended. LPC has way more fans than I realized. People were lined up down the street. The store was packed and there was a crowd peering in the window waiting for something to start. A rumor was circulating that Alex Trebek was about to make an appearance. For those who don’t know, Trebek is a long suffering victim of LPC calls. I couldn’t see or hear poo poo from where I was but a corny setup happened where a guy pretending to be Alex Trebek started arguing with a guy pretending to be a lawyer representing the real Alex Trebek who demanded that the even be shut down for false representation of Alex Trebek. Or something. A lot of people left and I was able to jostle my way into the room. Then they screened a 20 minute teaser for an LPC documentary in progress. It looks funny as poo poo. Then the main event, Longmont Potion Castle calls the record store and he’s live from loving Colorado or wherever in the room with us and people are going apeshit. He can hear his audience and he’s talking to us through his wacky delay effect. He’s doing a Q&A and he’s just super funny and and never ever gives a straight answer, just like his calls. There was such a confused and amused vibe in the room it was great. He took numbers from audience members and tried to call people’s moms and stuff but there were a few no-answers. Someone in the crowd said they had Ron Jeremy’s phone number (because L.A.) Sure enough, beloved porn star Ron Jeremy is talking to Longmont Potion Castle about how they met one time before in the park and they should meet up and get coffee some time. R.J. was a good sport. I left feeling like I had just seen Metallica.

I saw that it had Tracy Morgan in it and was intrigued, but then saw that Aubrey Plaza was in it and then said "nah, pass". I don't think that Aubrey Plaza is a good actress, she was good on Parks n Rec, but she was being carried by the other actors. I saw her agent a few years ago, he was on his phone really selling her to whoever was on the other line. I shoulda kidnapped him in the alley when I had a chance.

Crank Yankers characters were like MadTV characters without the subtlety or charm. What if there was black guy with a big dick who loved having sex or a developmentally disabled child who yelled yay a lot, asks Adam Carolla moments before tripping and falling headfirst into angered irrelevancy.

My favoite one is one about Tough Sheds. That couple was willing to talk for hours. You don't have to act crazy to sell sheds. You can be normal.

Opinion: the Kiefer Sutherland call just doesn't work, LPC says a lot of fun things but KS plays it totally straight and won't let himself get riled up. The Alex Trebek calls, on the other hand, are always a joy, the man shows he has a good heart and is a real gentleman even when getting slightly steamed.

LPC is one of the funniest prank callers ever. Rope was the first one I ever heard about 10 years ago. spent many late nights listening to him, he's great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMD5c6rLw14 does anyone remember the one where he said he was going to go knock someone around and then the person responds they're going to knock him around? that was hysterical

See, I'd say the humor in that one comes from the fact that he humors LPC for a solid five minutes instead of just not answering or hanging up. He's enabling him despite playing the straight man, despite being above it all. He's brought down to his level.

I sometimes just think about the one where hes telling the guy he has a truck load of rocks or w/e waiting to be dropped off and laugh myself stupid over it. It's maybe my favorite. I actually haven't listened to most of his stuff, I had a friend give me a burned copy of one of his collections a million years ago. Im gonna get v stoned and listen to a bunch of them tomorrow, is there any people really recommend? Dude has a lot of content

I love LPC and was excited to see the doc when it came to Toronto. If you ever get a hold of it, just skip to the last part where they actually get him in an interview, because most of the doc is abysmally bad. You can't even really call it a doc, it's just 2 dudes who own a camera that swindled fans on indiegogo and farted out a thing. The directors have about 30 mins of usable footage and an hour of garbage, where they're sitting around asking each other "how are we going to make this work?" and interviewing fans who explain to death their favourite jokes. The live show mentioned earlier is in it and it's just awful. LPC was so generous to hang with these guys and let them in on his life and promote the thing. Otis Elevators is my favourite call. He just dropped a new album, go ahead and buy it.
