That's got to be some sort of challenge, right? I and my people, even though we appear to be heavily involved in this mess l, will refuse to appear, sounds like a clear intention to stonewall the impeachment and a challenge to Dem will. Subpoena the lot of them and let him ignore it, then find a spine and arrest them all if they do. "State Department/Pompeo arrested for refusing to comply with investigation" is a bad look for them.

I can only surmise that Engel (the chairman) was taking a shot at just asking before using his subpoena power; as long as he does, I don't think there's anything wrong with him trying to maintain a veneer of patience.

tokyo reject posted:Can someone with more expertise explain how this is most likely going to play out? Well, unless Pompeo was lying*, no congressional subpoenas were issued for these depositions, so he's not breaking any laws...yet. We won't really know how it plays out until we actually do get impeachment inquiry subpoenas ignored. Then we will see if Democrats are willing to actually use the power they have. *NOTE: I do not believe Pompeo is above lying; just that he's not lying about this. The Glumslinger posted:Pompeo himself was subpoenaed for documents, and the State Departments officials were asked to testify OK, but that still doesn't disprove what I said. Until we actually get them going on the record defying a subpoena in the impeachment inquiry, the House can't exercise contempt, inherent or otherwise.

I'm just wondering at what point Capital in this country is going to pick up the phone and phone the powers that be in our government to say, "Ok, Trump has become bad for business. He's got to go." What, if it's even plausible, does that threshold look like? I mean, I feel like most of the posters in this thread (and these forums in general) fall somewhere on the labor scale. We're outraged primarily on a moral basis (although I'm sure any farmers and other affected people by Trump's policies who aren't card carrying CHUDs surely register anger for economic reasons as well) but what would it take to really make the ruling class that typically goes R all the way say, "This guy has to go." Because honestly, I believe if that were to happen he'd be escorted out of the White House in matter of months. It just seems like once you have that level of money where it's actually, physically impossible to spend or withdraw or do really do anything besides move around to make more money, you'd be thinking at some point "gently caress, if this guy truly destabilizes our country and economy with his erratic behavior, he's gonna gently caress with my money." Am I just talking out of my rear end as a working class layman?

He's fantastic for business if you want tax breaks and reduction in regulations and deal mostly domestically. Dealing with people like Trump in business is not uncommon, idiots who rose with no real effort and respond to flattery describes way too many directors and officers in companies. Businesses are well-prepared to work with people like this in power.
