Rigel posted:Just an ignorant guess, but is the reason why UK polls are notoriously bad because on the phone a voter will tell them their preference in a perfect world where their party is actually viable, but on voting day they go "welp, my guy is dead in the water in my district, time to vote for the least-bad option" yeah you're describing constituency level polling - going to each place there is an election and polling how people will vote in said election. only one polling company does this and it's run by the arch conservative literal lord ashcroft.

Schrodinger's prosperity: simultaneously voting for brexit because it'll make the country more prosperous, while also accepting that things will be tough and a lot of poors and disableds are going to have to die and none of the money will make its way to them, of course. Years of being shat on have ingrained the status quo in their shrivelled brains to such an extent that they're celebrating prosperity they are never going to touch.

Maybe "no deal is better than a bad deal" means "there's no deal we're going to get that's better than a bad deal."

And it's a bit chicken-and-egg when it comes to what they think people deserve, but what people deserve and people getting away with something get all tangled up until you end up being such a wanker you'll vote for the Tories because somewhere a disabled person might have a good day where they can manage well and thus prove they need no welfare.

Jose posted:radmonger who did you vote for in 2017 Not only did I vote for Corbyn (then and in both leadership elections), I think was the only person in this thread who expected him do well. I actually put a fiver on him getting a majority, once the odds became totally ridiculous. The point is, Labour have decided not to contest the next election ( there was a vote at conference and everything, it seemed like about 3 months ago). So the relevant political topic is whether Corbyn will step down shortly after losing; I am expressing the opinion he should, in order to allow someone untalented fed by Brexit failure to carry the banner of the left. It turns out this is a surprisingly controversial position; is it that people here really think Labour will win, or have they merely not thought through the implications yet?
