Humbug Scoolbus posted:That stuff is so loving easy to create by accident in metals processing and it can kill you in a variety of ways. One of the many ways that stuff can kill you is the reason why my dad had to put on his Sunday best and attend a co-worker's funeral. Check out the short term exposure effects: cough, fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, chest pain, difficulty breathing, irregular heartbeat, headache, dizziness, disorientation, bluish skin color, blood disorders, liver enlargement, convulsions, death Now, this is kinda in order of how it's going to kill you. If you catch it in time you might be able to stop it. Thing is, the beginning stages feel like a bad cold or flu. They figured the poor guy just didn't know until it was too late. He had a cold, went in to work anyway and just figured he was getting more sick. Odds are he sneezed or something and in his already reduced capacity from the flu wiped his nose with the back of his hand without thinking about it. His hand that was in a glove contaminated with carbonyl. A few days later he was dead. Carbonyl will explode and you die. Or it will catch fire and you'll die. Or it'll poison you and you'll die. If you're not careful. My dad and his crew were as careful as possible and they still lost a man. Some bigwigs from a Russian mining operation were touring the plant one time and as soon as they found out there was carbonyl in the lines they demanded to be immediately escorted off the property. In Russia, they aren't so careful.

The plug kept falling in the water tripping the built in gfi so we took turns holding the cord out of the water while someone else drilled. If you hold it too close to the outlets itll trip, except this one time where it zapped me" "Please dont electrocute yourself at work". "They're just little zaps they don't even hurt"

Pretty cool of Nestle to make billions off bottled water and pump out of an aquifer right next to Flint for the last few years!

Guess who previously turned two microwaves into a stick welder. And who is now turning a busted gasless Mig welder into a Spot Welder? This GUY! (still owns both thumbs)! Early test, I've since shortened the leads and added another 2 windings so at 998Amp:

How did you convince yourself this is a good idea and how did you keep convincing yourself while you were building this thing? This post is like 80% genuine curiosity and 20% a veiled "what the gently caress were you thinking" btw.

Making stick or spot welders out of microwave transformers or old MIG machines is, like, babbys first welder project. Calm down, y'all. That's cool as hell.

Whats so bad about that? He's wearing a hard hat. That reminds me, Don't remember if I posted about this one yet. Did some drilling for a guy with a contaminated property. Some guy sold him some snake oil to do some remediation injections. Basically, you inject a chemical in to the ground, it reacts in some way with the contaminant and breaks it down or "cleans" it or whatever. Guy ended up digging a trench in his shop that was probably 10 feet deep 20 or so feet long and *maybe* 3 feet wide, but probably less than that. He was using a right angle drill and some sort of contraption that he got from the snake oil salesman to inject the chemicals in to holes he drilled out laterally from the sides of the trench. No shoring, of any kind. There was a ladder at one end that barely made it to the top of the trench, and a garden hose "so you can breathe if it caves in on you". The soil underneath the building and in the area was sand.
