Guardian article by Gary Younge where he points out the bleeding obvious: that a no-deal Brexit can only be avoided by the other parties working with Jeremy Corbyn. Bacon Terrorist posted:He said he wont stand in the next election? "Standing down" could just apply to his current seat. If he's joining the Lib Dems it's very, very, very unlikely he'd want to stand in a seat which has been Tory since its creation in 1950 and the last General Election* where the majority was less than 10,000 was 1966 * for pedants there was a weird by-election in 1983 where the majority went from 15,000 to 552 - less than the combined total for Monster Raving Loony Party and assorted deposit-losing independents - but it was back up to 17,000 in 1987.

I do also like the idea he was using this as a pretext to try and sleep with her and she just helped him with what he actually asked for tech-wise, as his erection got ever more painful.

It's a good lesson in how vote suppression/voter apathy (especially at by-elections) can affect even ultra safe seats though. The Tory vote crashed by >10,000 votes because turnout was down by a similar amount. You see a similarish thing in various Scottish seats in 2017, where a few massive SNP majorities were defeated (or came close to defeat) more by falling turnout rather than anything else

For the goon who got fired 4 days into their job for no reason - I can't find the post to quote it. Holy poo poo that's insane. I understand that when you're in Probation they can just drop you whatever but that must be a baffling experience. Is it not possible to force them to tell you what went wrong? When I was younger (like 12 years ago) I had a job with Royal Mail at their business call centre and I got fired out of nowhere one day just after I'd been given system access and I always wish I'd pushed to find out what I actually did. They even offered me overtime the day before, it's one of those things that's really stuck with me. It was agency work though, so no rights for me.

It's not even just probation, it applies to any job for the first two years (contractors notwithstanding), at least in so far as that you can't take them to task over it. So the agency work bit doesn't really matter.

Unclear if you mean in 1983 or 2017, but I'd be willing to accept both This is interesting, but probably more signal-boosting/ego-tripping for Stewart than anything. He'd be relying on a) beating Bailey in the first round, b) being the 2nd pref for basically all the Tory voters, and c) being 2nd pref for >50% of Lib Dems voters, which seems like a long shot. I'm not that up on London politics though, so does anyone else rate his chances?

Anyone have any advice on how to deal with a housemate not paying their bills? It's only £50 a month but they never loving pay and currently owe me a couple of hundred quid. I hate chasing it, I imagine they hate being asked, but I am getting really narked off. I know they're ignoring my emails and I think they're actively avoiding me as much as they can atm. If they said they were broke I could understand and work something out but total radio silence is infuriating.
