Also this would probably do great if it was marketed as some gimmick thing to gamers, like those 'Mana potion' energy drinks or something, but whiskey reaaaally wasn't the market calling out for this bold innovation.

probably in a minority here but i think jess phillips has done some good work around the issue of child sexual abuse. it's a massive, massive problem in this country and it's weird leftists don't seem to discuss it much. especially given something like rotherham where there was clearly an organized and systemic operation to exploit working class girls which the local government and police were protecting and participating in. idk she's annoying af and she's a complete liability, but i respect what she does there tbh, and also her confrontational approach to the anti-lgbt parents at that school.

The thread has talked about her before and if I remember right there's definitely a case to be made that purely as an MP she's not great, not terrible, and has definitely done some good work on some topics. Honestly if she'd just give over with the attacks on Corbyn she'd probably attract like 10% of the ire, even if she remained fully committed to making sure everyone knows how great Jess Phillips is.

IIRC Rotherham attracted attention because the far right used it as a beacon to attack the Muslim community when similar stories happen all over the country, many of them even worse. The difference is in that case they were made an example of, rather than protected further because of the colour of their skin and that was used to attack innocent people all over the country.

Both Jess Phillips and Tom Watson are happy to go on camera and look very upset when it comes to abuse cases, and press regulation but they're also happy to look the other way, and even start angrily ranting against the left when it's pointed out that the best way to combat those problems is to deal with inequality, capitalism, and class divisions.

Polls are bollocks etc but honestly that poll is probably true, every establishment shithead and traditional media source making GBS threads on us every single day has an effect, that's why they do it. All we can do is give our time and energy to help push the idea that maybe old women shouldn't literally die in puddles of their own poo poo and blood so the finance cunts can get another tax cut in that brief pre-election period when the press is allowed to lie less and then we just hope enough people are convinced.

The libs infesting this thread excluded, we are taking on the most powerful systemic social powers that exist, and they are in fight mode all the time just throwing money. The period right before an election is a darkest before dawn moment don't get discouraged by it being extremely loving dark, the sun can still rise if we're willing to give it a wee push.

Yes, I know the anti-Corbyn criticisms – from both social media and in private exchanges with MPs. It is impossible to make common cause with someone who has so connived in antisemitism and been so consistently ambiguous over the EU. Don’t be fooled by his surface decency – he has unleashed the divisive red guard outriders in Momentum on some of the best in the Labour party. And Andrew Fisher, his policy director, when resigning wrote about the “blizzard of lies and excuses” and lack of “human decency” at the top. Corbyn’s radical socialism is so beyond even normal radical leftism that he constitutes a public menace, reflected in personal poll ratings of minus 60.

I'm sure this doesn't need to be said, but please don't put alcohol up your butt

wiki posted:

An alcohol enema is a faster method of alcohol intoxication since the alcohol is absorbed directly into the bloodstream. The lower gastrointestinal tract lacks the alcohol dehydrogenase enzyme present in the stomach and liver that breaks down ethanol into acetylaldehyde, which is actually more toxic than ethanol (drinking alcohol) and is responsible for most chronic effects of ethanol. When rectally absorbed, ethanol will still eventually arrive at the liver, but the high alcohol content could overwhelm the organ. Additionally, consuming the alcohol rectally neutralizes the body's ability to reject the toxin by vomiting

sorry but you sound a bit like you're downplaying what happened and dare i say minimising the victims' experiences here. i'm hard pushed to think of "worse cases", because rape is rape, you know? and i don't think the girl who was doused in petrol and threatened into silence, or the girl who was traded back to her family by a cop in exchange for her promising not to press charges, or the girl who's mother was followed home and threatened at knife point to keep quiet, should be told "many cases are worse".

it was an organized child abuse and trafficking syndicate that was connected to and protected by corrupt local authorities for decades. most of the real players have and will never face justice for what they did. instead of getting in front of it and pointing out the obvious corruption and institutional complicity in the rotherham trafficking ring, instead of correctly arguing that it didn't happen because the gang was asian and the cops were scared of looking racist, but because the authorities were complicit and the girls were working class, it seems like the left just kind of meekly retreated while tossing out a few "not all muslims..." bromides, and let right wingers have a field day with it. not really good enough.

which is why i'm saying it would help if leftists were more proactive when stuff like this happens, so it's not just phillips and watson trying to have their moment in the spotlight.

You start by extracting a gel called alginic acid from seaweed. It's also used as a thickening agent in things like ice cream as well. Something like 1/3 of all the seaweed in the world farmed for this purpose used to come from the Indonesian island of Nusa Lembongan whey stretched nets out in a lagoon on which the seaweed grew. The lagoon was also good for night fishing but the locals would just ditch their used batteries so the beach was littered with NiCads. Around the lagoon were several mean surfing spots over sharp reefs with names like Lacerations.

The industry collapsed in 2015 due to pollution, but up until then it was nice to know that every tub of ice cream contained, in microscopic proportions, both cadmium and surfer blood.
