How the gently caress did Spectre end up costing a quarter of a billion dollars to make? (Budget estimates range from $245m to $300m.) There's nothing in it - on screen, at least - bigger or more spectacular than anything done by the previous movies, in most cases on a small fraction of the budget. (Inflation-adjusted, the budgets of TSWLM and Moonraker are $59m and $120m.)

I guess they were shovelling money at Craig and Mendes, neither of whom especially wanted to come back, and the producers obviously wanted to be well paid for their time too.

Aside from the Bond brand being about largesse in production--weird locations! the most... everything! (such as the largest practical explosion ever!)--product and service connections charging quadruple because they know it's a Bond film, and what Timby said, I'm not sure they're as expensive on the balance sheet when you count up all the endorsement deals.

I'm a novelist and a pretty basic rule is that I plan how the gently caress the story is going to end before I start actually writing it.

Mind you, as a novelist there are exactly two people I have to get approval from: me, and my editor (who signs the cheques). Once you start including the 27 people who all want a say in a movie, that's when you get into giant spider territory.

Not that it provides much to talk about besides the font choice that evokes older novels. I think I have a Benson novel that uses it.

Collar gap on the suit, with all the money and the custom tailoring it really shouldn't be so hard to get a proper fit. Just because the current trend is for everything to be too tight doesn't mean Bond has to.

Can't blame you. I had to do a double check too. Can't believe I didn't recognize Swann and Blofeld.
I think that half broken mask looks cool. But apart from that? Is this another "going rogue" story?

After the critical failure of Spectre I kinda expected them to get scared and just pretend the whole Blofeld thing never happened, so I'm actually pleasantly surprised that they're sticking with it at least somewhat.

It's never come out. Boyle and his co-writer have remained steadfastly tight-lipped and all they've said is that Barbara Broccoli was the person who raised a stink bomb over their script and that they feel they wasted their time, because Wilson and Broccoli signed off on the initial pitch.

What would even be the point? He's like Dr. Who, played by so many people in so many different iterations that "killing" him would hardly have any meaning.

I'm sure Craig loved it for obvious reasons.

The entire last act reeked of "we rewrote this at the last minute" and was the toothpick holding together that poo poo sandwich of a movie.

As every other Craig movie seems to be dire and the ones in between very good to great, it seems we're due another good one.

That's because it was. Production was shut down for like a month to rewrite the last hour or so of the movie.

C's grand plan was originally to cause a blackout in London.

You are an odd fellow, but I must say... you throw a swell shindig.

Given the villain's remarks about "my skills will live on forever" in the trailer, I wonder if the storyline will have something to do with AI. That could be fertile story territory for a 21st century bond movie.

Yeah I had read that they were having an epic case of writer's block due to some disagreements among Key People. But they should've just gone with Option A, whatever it was.

EDIT: The movie ends with Malek escaping in a personal sub while calling Bond a "pedo guy" but the sub breaks on its own and he drowns.

I can see it now...bond is chasing the big mcguffin train that he was told is shipping arms and munitions by the evil locks government. He jumps onboard, fighting off henchman left and right.

Finally he makes it on board the train, he enters a compartment filled to the top with thousands of tarp covered pallets. He pulls back a tarp and it's ....food.

It's a recurring problem. Casino Royale isn't quite as much of a problem but since then every movie has had Craig squeezed into suits and shirts two sizes too small. The Tom Ford costume designing has gotten way out of control.

Everything about it, and previously both Diamonds are Forever and Mission Impossible Fallout, screams that he'll be the actual main antagonist at the end of the day, and I hope they don't do that as my brain is very much expecting it to happen. My expectations have also been set back by Cary saying in an interview that they see it as a film that continues the story all the way through from Casino Royale, as that thinking is part of the reason Spectre was absolutely terrible.
