Also lol 'sports industries'.

Sport - Any activity that uses physical exertion or skills competitively under a set of rules that is not based on aesthetics. The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practising sport, without discrimination of any kind, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.

Sounds very compatible with private industry, given their history.

I have been saying for the longest time: all people involved with sport should make minimum wage. Owners, athletes, everyone. Watching sport does not enrich the mind or provide any benefit to society than provide bullshit tribalism.

Sports provide a way for people to be active, a central pillar for communities to form around and share experiences, and a moment of relief from the crushing grind of the workday, you useless whinging rear end in a top hat. Christ I don't even like sports that much and I can see the positive benefits they can bring.

Ok, that sounds a lot better. Just as long as we have a bunch of decently paid people as opposed to one loving Cristiano Ronaldo cheating on his taxes and raping people and all the owners enabling him.

Because all you do is whinge about how terrible your life is when you have literally everything necessary to live a far better life than most people in the world, while actively ignoring any suggestions in favour of continuing to whine about everything that might make other people's lives better because it might possibly disrupt your wasteful little misery pit, combined with a staggeringly elitist view of everyone who doesn't have as much money as you.

I like French-Algerian philosopher and goalkeeper Albert Camus' take on it. Everything is loving meaningless, we are all involved in a grind to the grave, and nothing matters *record scratch* except the things that we give meaning to and say matter, individually and as groups, and sport provides a lens through which we can view that.

Camus posted:

Everybody who cares about sport has an interest in drawing the line between acceptable customs and immoral practices.

Mate gently caress offfffff you typically need to be earning double the UK median wage to qualify for a mortgage at that level. Have you not seen the loving banana meme? Or did you think it only applies to your coworkers?

Bonus round: Have a think about what the mortgage calculator offers you when you put in the minimum wage that you want to enforce on others.

I don't live in the UK, I live in the Netherlands, hence I I posted that link about the average new house price being 400k, which is above my savings and the mortgage I can get.

And maybe we should have a minimum wage that allows everyone to live well. What I don't support is that society should reward managers and arbitrary strongmen for an activity that enriches no one. That goes for most YouTubers as well.

What's wrong with a below average house? Also sport enriches me personally (only in the spiritual sense sadly) so it's not no one.

OwlFancier

AceOfFlames
Oct 9, 2012

I have looked at houses but most of the ones I can afford are too far from where I work. So the same problem a lot of people have.

I'm not saying I'm destitute. Far from it, I agree I am extremely lucky. I'm just puzzled over the fact that at one point people were going "Why the hell haven't you bought a house yet, idiot" and I am explaining the reasons.

Edit: I think there also might be a bit of a language problem. When I say "house" I usually mean "place to live", not "detached building of residence". I wouldn't want a house, I'd rather have a flat.

Do you know what the word "everyone" means? Who gets to decide whether a given job "enriches" anybody? Do you feel that your job "enriches" anybody other than yourself and your employer? Why do you deserve more than minimum wage?
