Unrelated, but there were some people in CineD saying the Purge movies weren't subtle enough, and I'm starting to think that people who want subtle political commentary only do because blatant political commentary makes them uncomfortable.

I've never seen how hamfisted the Purge is as a bad thing since the premise is so absurd to begin with. Really not looking for subtlety in my B movies about a yearly murder party.

This is correct but it’s also true that Nick is best chapo despite only being chapo adjacent.

I also love that amber is back and that classic Amber Matt love hate dynamic.

Finally, how could they not have brought up that Todd Phillips directed the GG Allin movie?? Seems slightly germane to the topic.

I watched the Purge TV show and it was alright and like just throw away hinted that there were large areas protected by armed leftists but never got into it which was disappointing. Show was otherwise fine but didn't quite have the juice the later movies had. It was set in New Orleans I think and don't remember seeing any alligators.

Amber getting annoyed when Nick said that movie was poverty porn was great. For the record it is a good movie but calling it one of the best depictions of the working class or whatever is some big academic bubble energy.
