I can't relate to the dumb relationship comics but that doesn't mean the main attraction of them isn't being relatable. I am not a horrible shut in nerd who thinks being able to recognize the duck tales theme is somehow a defining character trait, but those people exist and the comic is for them. In my defense the facebook comic is way worse than the one I was making a statement about and was only posted after I said my thing, to be fair.

I mean, I hate to go to bat for this guy but the underlying message of "bullying ruins childrens' lives and gives them scars that might not ever go away, and it's kinda hosed up ten years later to pretend that you were actually friends and you didn't make someone's life a misery for your own amusement" is a correct and important one. I just really, really wish he wasn't delivering it like a self-righteous rear end in a top hat.

Not the bullying part, I believe that, but the friend request part. It's a fantasy about pushing back against your tormentors, and the fantasy itself is incredibly banal. I think that makes it relatable but also hard to read because there is no self-awareness there. He doesn't get the small tragedy of the situation. The fantasy of the nerd winning and the rich jock rear end in a top hat will fail and get fat and...oh no hes a rich lawyer and has a great life. drat.

Dobson's an absolutely awful person and literally pushed a 'anyone criticising you is wrong, you don't need to listen to people to be better at art' message. (Which funnily enough backfired as his DeviantArt followers went 'wait who are you talking about that's criticising you' and looked up said critics and mostly agreed with them) He's an awful nerd who thinks bitching about other kinds of nerds he knows nothing about makes him superior and doesn't understand why Nintendo doesn't consider the 90s Mario cartoons canon. And also drew inflation anime porn.

Dobson is frustrating cause his art style isn't terrible just incredibly bland and if he put any amount of effort at improving it would probably do wonders. But he won't. But then his jokes would still suck rear end.
