This sounds completely loving naive, but is there any chance the Iranians would actually help the Kurds? I read somewhere that the Iranian government is actually pretty tolerant of the minority christian and Zorasterism(?) groups in the country

edit: My bad, facts weren't entirely accurate. Leaving the post because I really enjoyed using helicopter dicking as a verb :v:

Yeah in hindsight it seems more like it was a "they changed the rules so they could investigate her with full impeachment powers without having to actually vote to start an impeachment investigation to get those powers, which functionally means all thats required to start an impeachment investigation with elevated powers now is simply declaring it has started".

You're not really wrong. The amount of coverage that the leaks about black sites and abuses got compared to the fervor for revenge was minuscule. People did know, certainly, and even a few senators spoke out against it even as early as the lead up to the Iraq war -- but it wasn't until 2006 that public opinion really started to sour. Shame that souring was so temporary. Normalizing a monster just gets you worse monsters, in the end.

Erdogan (apparently) announced this offensive by telling the US president to either help or get out of the way. He doesn't give a poo poo about revoked funding. Threats on this level are the equivalent of thoughts and prayers, because there's no way an offensive of this scale is stopping until they either accomplish their goals or face the threat of an actual, military confrontation.

"Now"? The other countries of the world have been actively flaunting our uselessness openly for a couple of years at this point. The EU had big public meetings about what to do to coalesce around themselves because we were obviously going to be of no use in the event of an actual crisis.
