Welp, I kinda thought Trump would laugh off the impeachment threat but it didn't cross my mind that now he's got an election to win and it probably means the world to him. I bet he would love to become Great Leader through a self-coup if the opportunity fell into his lap.

This isn't as crazy as some think:

Armed Militias Are Taking Trump’s Civil War Tweets Seriously

Over the weekend, the president sent a tweet that seemed to warn of civil war if he were to be impeached and removed from office:

https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1178477539653771264

Although the president was quoting Pastor Robert Jeffress’s comments on Fox News, he was adopting them as his own.

It might seem tempting to dismiss this language as of a piece with President Trump’s typical Twitter rhetoric. But it is worth paying particular attention to this tweet—because among the people who read it were militia groups enthusiastic about exactly what Trump portended. And while no violence has yet resulted from the president’s tweet, it would be foolish to underestimate the power of Trump’s comments to call rogue militias to action, particularly if there is an impeachment and he continues to use this rhetoric to fan the flames. In the days after his civil war tweet, he went on to use similarly incendiary language, referring to impeachment proceedings as a “COUP.”

Consider the Oath Keepers group, a far-right armed militia. Calling on its 24,000 Twitter followers to read the president’s whole tweet thread, the Oath Keepers account posted:

https://twitter.com/Oathkeepers/status/1178549790847590400

Before this tweet, the Oath Keepers account tweeted that, under the U.S. Constitution, “the militia (that’s us) can be called forth ‘to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions.’ ... “All he has to do is call us up. We WILL answer the call.” Other Oath Keeper tweets also hint at violence: One states that “their favorite rifle is the AR 15.”

My (22M) stepdad (49M) is obsessed with conspiracy theories. It's tearing our family apart.
I grew up in a Christian family. When I was 15, my mom (46F) married my stepdad. I didn't *really* approve, but my grandmother (68F), who lives with the family, was particularly distraught. What I didn't like about him was that he was not the kind of man my mom had raised me to be, thus a bad role model. Specifically: He's not empathetic, especially when it comes to those with different political views.

He's always been one for conspiracy theories, but it has gotten significantly worse over the years, especially since Trump was elected. Of the crazy things he's told us:

Bush Sr. was secretly given the death penalty for the assassination of JFK

JFK Jr. is still alive

Hillary Clinton had a clone

The government mind controls us through particular brands of toothpaste

The U.S./Australia never won independence from England

The globe is not warming

The government is using super colliders to build the Devil a body

And that's not even to mention what he's come up with in defense of Trump. No matter what, Trump is never to blame. It's always the deep state/fake news media out to get him. I understand that people support their favored politicians, but this is next-level cult-like stuff. To him, Trump is incapable of doing anything wrong.

Additionally, he has for 5+ years now been propagating this "global currency reset" theory where investments in Iraqi dinar will essentially turn all investors into millionaires. He's deeply, deeply in debt, and that theory is pretty much the only way those debts would ever be paid off.

My mom and grandma are conservatives, but they never supported Trump, with my mom even going so far as to say "I don't see how a Christian can support Trump." None of us believe his conspiracy theories, but my mom has never told him so. She hasn't had an easy life, and the idea of going through the fight with him exhausts her. My grandmother and I never say anything either for my mom's sake, as we don't want to start a family fight.

But it's getting out of hand. I don't live at home anymore, but I still come home often on weekends. Every time, my stepdad has some new theory, and the few times that we've pushed back on them, he takes it personally and gets offended. We are all very tired of feeling like we can't speak freely in our own home, and (I believe) his theories are leading him to some dangerous mental spaces. When John McCain was still alive, he thought he was a child molestor, wishing he would "drop dead" (he made that comment after McCain blocked Obamacare's repeal). A couple weeks ago, he listed off several names of politicians he deems corrupt and said "I think we need a few Punishers [to take care of them]."

TL;DR: My stepdad is obsessed with bullshit conspiracy theories and gets offended when we don't believe him, which leads my mom, my grandma and myself to avoid challenging his toxic beliefs. Over the years, these theories have gotten progressively more absurd and led him to, at least on a couple occasions, advocate for political violence. My grandma and I are sick of living this way; Mom isn't crazy about it either.

What do we do? How do we approach this?

Generally a narcissist instincts really understands that there is a difference between how they can behave and what they can say when they are around people they hold power over, and when they are in view of people they do not hold power over. However, during a narcissistic meltdown, the narcissist gradually forgets that there is supposed to be a separation between behavior sets, and more and more you see their true behavior coming out clearly while they are in public view.

As this process goes on more and more you're going to see the raw unfiltered Trump coming out, and my friends it's as childish as it is fuckin ugly:

well since I'm kind of pulling this all out of my rear end with regards to the separation between the different stages, I'd have to say stage 3 would probably look like ...... the halfway point between wherever we are now and Trump launching into a profanity glad tirade on live television. I don't know, he's escalating so fast it's kind of hard to even set a firm boundary.

We're going to keep saying constant escalation though on till he finds a way to feel some kind of satisfaction, tonight's rally should be interesting but I'm really in much more interested to see what the next week or so brings.

Trump's Narrativist base is continuing to psych themselves up towards violence: https://twitter.com/bobcesca_go/status/1185585106993532928?s=19

It seems that Trump's base has largely compacted to the point that they have disconnected from even Fox News now and are largely reliant on the right-wing echosphere/Qanon style conspiracy sites to get their news/marching orders.

Remembering from a few articles read a long time ago (thanks narcissistic ex), there's a tendency for them to mellow some in middle and old age. Can't keep up the facade any more, forced to rely on others, a bit of life experience and learning, etc.

Yeah, I've noticed this trend. Trump himself is disconnecting from Fox News and moving towards One American News because the latter isn't critical of him even though the production values are green screen in a garage quality. This is because many on Fox don't defend him as vigorously as he wants or because they actually criticize him, so he's going elsewhere.

I'm noticing a growing trend in nihilism among the right wingers because Trump isn't as Nazi as they want him to be and is losing steam. When people have lots of time to brood and grow angry, they tend to turn to nihilism if they don't turn to class consciousness, which our corporate media and fascist media actively discourages. What they want is a focus on individualism and that hopelessness stresses people the gently caress out. Nihilism makes people far more likely to commit stochastic terrorism or form groups to vent violence on people they've been conditioned to hate as a way of relieving that stress.

The very online chuds have been more frequently adopting the clown world meme, which as a Pepe in a clown suit. The idea behind the meme is that the world is absurd (this is true, read Camus) and that there is no hope (untrue) and that the people are at fault for this are the Jews (nope) and all there's left to do is embrace nihilism (instead of class consciousness). And from nihilism it's not hard to become the terrorist in a stochastic terrorist event, which you would call "lone wolf" attacks, even though that's not true and there's enough activism and ground game and culture to create what I like to think of along the lines of a "lone wolf industrial complex". Q-Anon is also beginning to slip into nihilism as well as it continues to fragment as well. poo poo is going to get dark when Trump loses.

Jesus I didn't expect to watch all 40 minutes of that. Very worth it, and just shared it with a former student of mine who turned out to be kind of Gabe-like to see his reaction. They don't explicitly talk too much about the group itself radicalizing/compacting during failures, much less put a name on it, but the video touches on all the workings of such movements that suck people in.

For those of you looking to laugh at the president's expense, watch a narcissist get booed on national television and feel real pain in accord.

They literally put on the troops so people would stop booing. That poo poo was quick. It didn't work.

Note that this is the "military section". While gross, it still sends a message.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKBFJ1sGg6Q

And finally, the full youtube clip of boos. You can see the announcers trying to get cheers by baiting nationalist military poo poo, which works and then switching to Trump, which immediately fails.

Approval rating in DC for Trump is 4.09%. He couldn't have walked into this poo poo harder. Statehood for DC.
