I think transparently using the US military as a mercenary force would be really bad. You've gotta put at least a few layers in there with lobbyists to make it kosher.

Chris super doesn't deserve his rep. He literally was the guy who got visibly angry when Shep had one of his rare moral moments and said that, after they arrested the pipe bomb guy, maybe Trump should reconsider his rhetoric (not even able to say that this was working as intended for Trump, even giving him the out of 'oh gee didn't expect that') and Chris got MAD at him for daring to imply Trump could be to blame

Politco dug up a French Newspaper article that talked to Lev Parnas at Trump's invitation only 2016 Election Night party

https://www.lefigaro.fr/elections-americaines/2016/11/09/01040-20161109ARTFIG00009-les-fans-de-trump-reunis-au-hilton.php

Google Translate posted:

Lev Parnas, an insurer, says he is Russian and lives in Boca Raton, not far from Trump's second home. His friend, who held several fundraising nights, is also in the same place. His daughter sang all over Florida to promote the billionaire. "We are confident," said Leval, "America wants a change." Two Italians, who call themselves Berlusconi fans, say they are not surprised. "It's the same vein as Silvio, the lure of the outsider who promises to change things. Americans have enough, "says 38-year-old Germano Craia, who claims to support Donald Trump.

You know like the seven layers of hell where the top one is still really awful, but not nearly as bad as all the ones underneath? I think it's an acknowledgment of that sort of thing at Fox News. It's kind of like the situation with the GOP where the ones I still vehemently disagree with policy wise but could almost pass as a human being capable of some degree of forethought have been resigning en masse since Trump took over the party. Your Hurds, Ryan's, Corkers, Amash's and Flake's etc. If I were American and lived in their districts or states I'd never vote for them, but them leaving by default pushes the whole Republican party even further to a right wing extreme and absence of helpful ideas based on what's left and who is coming in. Your Gowdy's, Gaetz's, Graham's and Crenshaws namely who are full batshit and only care about being subservient to Donald Trump, quarreling with Democrats and being on TV to spout right wing bullshit.

I wonder why the mainstream news didn't cover the Lindsey Graham piss tape yesterday. He threw the Kurds under the bus and the publicly claims he has their backs. I didn't hear it mentioned once on CNN/ABC/MSNBC they are covering Syria a decent amount, so you'd think it would be referenced in public to show that Graham is being dishonest.

They likely consider the source compromised, despite Graham's office, unbelievably, confirming the recording is legit.

That and things are just moving too fast at this point.

Yeah, I mean, we are now entering Clancychat again but this whole betrayal of the Kurds nightmare is straight out of the dumb side of The Clancy Zone to start with, but this is... adjectiveless. There's no word that comes to mind immediately to describe it. Allowing deployed troops to be shelled by an attacker who cannot possibly claim ignorance outside of raging incompetence is theater of the absurd, and if they really were left flapping in the wind, that is going to have a ridiculous psychological effect. Like, "our commander in chief is now actively a threat to us" effect. I kind of want to go off on "oh no coup threat" but that still feels a bit hysterical, but even then... like, what else could the psychological response to this be? :psyduck:

Why do socialists assume that everyone will be like Norway and not like Russia at the height of the Soviet Union? The culture of totalitarianism runs deeper than the political ideology adopted by the local rulers. Just look at 'capitalist' Paraguay with its social safetynet and healthcare. Perfectly good but still poor baseline but fundamentally more humble and less totalitarian society and culture.
