I hereby claim this clifftop scrubland as the glorious Republic of Randtopia. The currency of Randtopia is bitcoins and the age of consent is also bitcoins. I am the king. There shall be no law but the NAP. btw pushing me off the cliff is breaking the NAP so dont try that because it is illegal.

Good news! Somebody already forked Facebook's Bitcoin in a project called OpenLibra. While it may not be obvious how, I think we can all agree this is very good for Bitcoin.

quote:

The OpenLibra project is a loose collective of individuals. We have no "association members", "partners", neither "employees" nor "leaders". We are individuals from some of the best-in-class blockchain projects and non-profit foundations, working on a crypto-native solution regarding Libra.

Very loose - I took a look at their repository, and none of the files have been touched since their import 5 days ago. It almost seems like they want to surpass Libra on the “not existing” front.

I've never looked at the libra code or docs before

https://developers.libra.org/docs/life-of-a-transaction

quote:

Client Submits a Transaction

A Libra client constructs a raw transaction (let us call it T5raw) to transfer 10 LBR from Alice’s account to Bob’s account. The raw transaction includes the following fields. Each field is linked to its glossary definition.

Alice's account address.
A program that indicates the actions to be performed on Alice's behalf. It contains:
A Move bytecode peer-to-peer transaction script.
A list of inputs to the script (for this example, Bob's account address and the amount of payment).
Gas price (in microlibra/gas units) — The amount Alice is willing to pay per unit of gas, to execute the transaction. Gas is a way to pay for computation and storage. A gas unit is an abstract measurement of computation with no inherent real-world value.
Maximum gas amount Alice is willing to pay for this transaction.
Expiration time of the transaction.
Sequence number — 5
A transaction with sequence number 5 can only be applied to an account with sequence number 5.

Cool cool, they've written their own smart contract language. I'm sure that will definitely work out great this time

quote:

Move modules define the rules for updating the global state of the Libra Blockchain. Modules fill the same niche as smart contracts in other blockchain systems. Modules declare resource types that can be published under user accounts. Each account in the Libra Blockchain is a container for an arbitrary number of resources and modules.

A module declares both struct types (including resources, which are a special kind of struct) and procedures.
The procedures of a Move module define the rules for creating, accessing, and destroying the types it declares.
Modules are reusable. A struct type declared in one module can use struct types declared in another module, and a procedure declared in one module can invoke public procedures declared in another module. A module can invoke procedures declared in other Move modules. Transaction scripts can invoke any public procedure of a published module.
Eventually, Libra users will be able to publish modules under their own accounts.

That bodes well for comedy futures if this thing ever gets off the ground

It's not my thread, and I get the impression she wrote it 1-3 Tweets at a time while she was reading through the whitepaper. That said, I do wish she had put an edited version on a blog or something because Tweet threads that long are absolutely obnoxious to read (but in this case I do think the information is good enough to wade through it).

twitter is the only platform on which it is allowed to post text publicly. unless you want to stick it on the blockchain but that’s only for important announcements.
