Yup, their policy now is unequivocal revocation even though they had also been calling for a referendum on EU membership in the first place. Previously they had been calling for a people's vote while saying they would just ignore if leave won again. Putting the democrat in liberal democrats.

Harry Dunn's parents have rejected the chance to meet the suspect in their son's crash death after Donald Trump dropped the "bombshell" that she was in the room next door at the White House.

Charlotte Charles and Tim Dunn felt "a little ambushed" by the offer made by the US president.

Anne Sacoolas, 42, returned to the United States days after the crash which killed 19-year-old Harry.

Harry's parents said they wanted to meet Mrs Sacoolas in the UK.

The president said Mrs Sacoolas was in an adjoining room but they refused to see her, saying the conditions were not right.

Mr Trump was sympathetic but did not agree to Mrs Sacoolas' UK return, Harry's parents said.

...

Mr Seiger told BBC Breakfast: "After quite sincere and warm condolences [President Trump] got down to business and said he had Mrs Sacoolas in the next room.

"I looked to my side and I saw at least three photographers ready to almost do a press call."

He insisted the meeting should take place in the UK, in the presence of therapists and mediators, but "certainly now now and certainly not in the White House in front of a bank of photographers".

"You don't just throw open the circus doors with the cameras," he added.

US national security adviser Robert O'Brien told the family during the meeting that Mrs Sacoolas "was never coming back" to the UK, Mr Seiger said.

...

But he added that the trip to the White House "didn't feel like a stunt".

"I think the president was very graceful and spoke very well to us.

"He listened to Charlotte very well, she spoke excellently to him and he was very understanding.

"I genuinely do think he will look to resolve this in a way that will help us."

Hahahahaha he actually had her in the next room ready to be rolled out like a prize on the Generation Game. I'm surprised it wasn't live-streamed.

And of course it was a loving stunt. I'm looking forward to the extremely insensitive tweet about it later today.

And I think that maybe our terrible governments are going to make a deal to release our citizens in exchange for letting off the American killer, then it'll be back slaps all round. Says it all though really, kill someone as you're driving on the wrong side of the road: a terrible accident, couldn't be avoided, no penalty. Yeah I saw that one yesterday and sad hahas only tbh, a sane country would just have the cop go "Hey you folks have strayed over the border a little. Don't worry! I'll just show you back over the line and we'll say no more about it."

But customs and borders are never reasonable agencies and they never attract the sensible employees. Even in the best of times.

When I was in Luxembourg about 4 years ago, I took a train and went a stop too far into France to a station I thought was still in Luxembourg on a 'one day travelcard' or whatever it was.
(I wondered why the train suddenly filled up with customs officials!).
Instead of being thrown into prison USA style or accused of fraud UK style, they just said get off at the next stop and then go back.

Agree but most people think anything that happens to a criminal is fine by them. Eg notice how 'police kill unarmed suspect who just happened to be the same colour as a criminal they were after' is swiftly followed by newspaper reports that 'yeah but he smoked dope once /stole some sweets off the sweetie counter in Woolworths when he was 6 so actually it's absolutely fine that he was killed.'

It's a constituency that has historically been Tory (save for a couple of Labour wins at the height of Tony Blair) and it's also the one that Luciana Berger's gone up for. I believe the area's got a strong Jewish population as well so it makes sense that they'd abandon Labour for Berger given the state of the news stories. I don't think you can translate that to a wider swing.

I've been toying with the idea recently that it could be a good thing for Corbyn to step down sometime soon. He's done amazing things for the party and growing the vote, but there are still a significant amount of people out there who believe he's a communist/anti-semite/hard-brexiter, whatever, and it feels like we're hitting diminishing returns now.

How many times do we have to relitigate this? It doesn’t matter who is the leader of the party; if they’re a socialist they’re going to be painted as all these things regardless.

That'll be the anti-semitism effect.
I've a very good long-time Jewish friend in that neck of the woods: left , pro-Palestinian human rights at some no small personal cost (being called 'kappo' 'self-hating' 'not-real-Jew' etc etc by his family) who has been generally pro-Corbyn, though not a party member. He's also an avid Guardian reader which has been the rag doing most of the pushing of the AS stuff.

I went to stay with him and his wife earlier this year and he said he didn't really believe it, but he didn't know what to believe so to be safe he said from now on he'll be voting LibDem.

Also what Rarity said. It's not really been a labour seat for much of its history. (It was at least two separate constituencies in Thatcher era).

A lot of legal systems embed some concept of "mens rea" into legal culpability - are you guilty of a crime if you do it accidentally - and the us system is no different although from a Google (lord knows I'm no lawyer) it varies by crime and jurisdiction as well as separated by state and federal law.

They may have committed the offence but it's hard not to look at it as a situation where a person buys a house in some land with no fences and camps out with night vision goggles and a loaded gun because castle doctrine is a thing. The swiftly applied, disproportionate force enforcement is carried out with because someone who's job it is wants to flex that now they get to Do Something is a dick move however you look at it.
