Brexit is but a door,
election time is but a window.

ed: tapired tax relief

from here

quote:

Johnson even beats Corbyn when people are asked if they trust leaders to tell the truth. He has a three-point lead over Corbyn on ‘tells the truth in general’ (22% over 19%) and an eight-point lead over Corbyn on ‘tells the truth about Brexit’ (23% over 15%).

This is remarkable because it is very hard to square with any reasonable assessment of the two men’s honesty. Johnson has twice been sacked from jobs for lying, and he is widely seen as someone who is cavalier about the truth. He was described as “the father of lies” recently in no less a venue than the supreme court. By contrast, at Westminster Corbyn is generally seen as someone who is not prone to dissembling and who finds it hard to say something he does not mean.

These figures also suggest that the entire, ongoing three-year demolition of Johnson’s “We send the EU £350m a week” claim by the fact-checking lobby has been in vain.
Just cannot believe that the "fact-checking lobby" wasn't effective against an emotional approach to politics

Almost as if Johnson came up in a industry that rewards constant and brazen lying so much that he became PM out of it and that same industry is the one that's in charge of assessing both men's character.

There are some issues around the fact that they can be told which metrics to use for constituencies by the governing party. The Tories told them to go by registered voters, IIRC, instead of eligible voters, when drawing up the new (and not implemented) boundaries, which favours the Tories...

That's true, but this has to be interpreted with some caution - vote share (by definition) also does not consider people who do not vote. When measuring boundary-drawing bias in terms of wasted votes per seat - that is, if two-party bias is measured by comparing the FPTP boundary effect against a PR ideal - the neutral PR point is to use actual voters to weight the seats, not eligible voters.

The partisan effect (as such) is hence the gap between registered and actual, not registered and eligible - i.e. weighting by past registered punishes inspirational leaders who can turn out surges in future actual voters, for instance, to pick a purely hypothetical example

It's literally the option Corbyn was saying she'd do but with Boris Johnson instead and the hardest possible Brexit rather than the softest under Labour.

The Lib Dems are going to get that betraying an entire generation dip before the General Election even comes.

Labour should propose an amendment whereby the deal is put to a referendum, and also Lib Dem MPs must switch careers with Westminster cleaners. Also the Tories. And some of Labour. Most of the House, really.

This looks like a lot of words for "I agree", which I guess is what to expect from a ronya post.

I explicitly said that the measures the comission were told to use could be a problem, but that the comission themselves were fair.

Very uplifting to see the jets of a colonial apartheid state currently engaging in ethnic cleansing flying over a former fascist state's ruined machine of genocide, demonstrating a total failure to learn anything meaningful from the holocaust. 'Ha! Now it is OUR race that is strong and mighty!' is not a particularly great take. The photo is great because of the irony, but it's not positive.

And while I know Israel =/= Jews, the encouraged interpretation of this photo very clearly plays on that direct association.

it's less the "could be a problem" element and more it's "previously conventionally it was considered another way in which the system favoured LAB, which it no longer does, or at least less so", rather than "it was fair previously and now favours CON"

the turnout surge proportion and variation is much smaller than the proportion and variations of eligible voters who don't; the hypothetical is iffy and hard to take entirely seriously. The point, rather, is that the effects come from the change over time rather than the voter composition at a given time

I never said it was fair before, what I said was the comission itself is fair, when you account that they have no control over certain measures.

Oh no Diane, oh no. I get that being in opposition means giving the government a kicking when you get a chance, but this doesn't seem like the right hill to do that on...

The interesting thing about the act is that as Mindgeek are in favour of it you could block an awful lot of content just by putting some form of verification on their sites (they own pornhub, redtube, youporn, brazzars etc). Except they've no interest in doing that unless everyone else is subject as well.
