Isn't regulating hate speech unconstitutional? Nationalizing social media won't accomplish much as long as defamation and privacy laws are weak, although presumably it would make enforcement easier. You might as well hope for Facebook to improve their policies to avoid GDPR fines ().

We are already in the midst of a huge social upheaval that is seeing centrists rapidly driven from power.

And then there's the fight to actually nationalize the company in the first place. And while both these things were happening you can damned well bet that Facebook and similar companies are going to be doing everything they can behind the scenes with the centrists/third way types to stop or corrupt the process.

So what? You fight them anyways.

In the case of the Democrats at least, if enough of their base starts screaming for them to do their jobs and actually push laws to do these things they'll eventually capitulate.

This fluea flatly in the face if the last 20 years of history; if the base screams enough then present Democratic Leadership will do the bare minimum to create the public appearance of addressing the problem- but they will simply not attack the interests of the investor class directly under any circumstances.

The benefit to the centrists and third way types being spineless cowards is that they're also afraid of losing their job and all the sweet corporate kick backs that come with it. So if they have to take a loss on that front and actually half rear end doing some progressive then they'll (very politely) tell Zuck to go gently caress himself. The question is how you get there from where we are now.
It's very simple- you convince the spineless Centrists that opposing the will of the base is a greater threat than whatever the investor class can do. You accomplish this goal by (loudly, fiercely) refusing to support Democratic leadership whenever it chooses the investor class over the people

No one likes apologia, and while your post was written in what you perceive to be good faith- it is terribly verbose content that never actually gets to any point other than insisting that the system can save us.

From my perspective insisting that the system is fine and that the leaders we have are good leaders because the system appointed them is extremely simplistic.

Skex you have yet to answer a single argument I've made to you over all these years in good faith. That's why I started simply dismissing your posts save for pointing out to everyone that all you do is write apologia for the system.

You have never argued in good faith, you always engage in strawman arguments. Look at this post specifically, I never said that the system is perfect and doesn't need to be changed. In fact I have advocated for specific changes to the system which is the exact opposite of saying that the system is perfect.

I haven't responded to any specific arguments you have made because you have never presented any other than vague "this thing should happen" without ever giving any explanation of how you think that this thing will happen.

I have given you multiple opportunities over the years to expound upon what you think should be done and every time you resort to accusations privilege trying to dismiss my arguments as being the result of my cis white privilege as if you didn't identify as cis white male when we started this argument so many years ago.

You accuse others of religious adherence to ideas yet you are the one who views anyone who doesn't adhere to your orthodoxy as some sort of heretic rather than someone who just has different opinions. It's annoying because I view you as an ally but you appear to be operating under the misimpression that ally means "completely agree on everything, hold identical priorities and must always defer to you when they differ" and view any questioning of that definition as a personal affront.

Just because something is obvious to you doesn't mean that it is obvious to others, in fact the fact that they aren't universally held views should be a very strong indicator that they aren't obvious to everyone. You're like the Christians who assume that atheists hate God and are evil devil worshipers because they say they don't believe in something that the Christians view as obvious. You assume the worst of those who don't agree with you and rather than trying to view things from their perspective and trying to understand how they reached different conclusions based on their experiences and backgrounds you just assume that they are selfish and evil rather than just wrong and you sure as hell don't ever consider the possibility that maybe you are the one who is wrong.

To have a good faith discussion you have to accept the possibility that you are the one who is wrong because otherwise you are not discussing, you are not debating you are preaching and proselytizing and you have shown no evidence of ever admitting that you have been wrong about anything.

Article Two of the convention defines genocide as "any of the following acts committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, as such":

Killing members of the group
Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group
Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part
Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group
Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group

Decorum was a byproduct of a system that let people take individual wins home even if they lost a vote.

I think what broke our system was the elimination of pork projects. You know, money for projects that soothe voters when a vote is lost. Even when most voters don't know or care, their politician ideally is bringing home projects that make people happy.

Right now there is no incentive to work together because those pork projects have been removed. How you bring home wins is by winning or putting up the biggest drat fight you can, or at least pretending to, and crowing about it. By eliminating pork projects, there are no political wins for politicians if they lose. Nothing. And so this polarizes the parties.

This is by no means the only reason, but I think if pork was restored you'd see more bipartisanship and more moderation. Fringe politics, at least on the right, totally dominates and this is a legitimate reason why.
